Everyone can admit that at some point in their life they have wanted to live in a castle. The idea of living in an old castle covered in ivy or adorned in white stone nestled in the enchanting hillside or on the banks of a sinuous river sounds enticing to all. Here’s a list of 5 castles you need to visit in your lifetime.

1. Pena Palace

Pena Palace is a Romanticist castle located in the colorful city of Sintra, Portugal. It stands majestically on a verdant hill with emerald ivy crawling up the steep hillside. It is unlike any other castle or palace because its walls are bright yellow, vibrant red, and deliciously white. Inside, the walls are an expanse of intricate detail and stylized carving, a truly unforgettable sight.

2. Hohenwerfen Castle

The best word to describe this castle in Austria is stunning. You will not find another castle with a better view than this one.

3. Neuschwanstein Castle

This castle has always been on my bucket list of places I need to visit. It has a charm and idealistic quality to it, that makes it stand out from rest of the castles. It is truly the epitome of fantasy and romance.

4. Mont Saint Michel

Isolated on an island in Normandy, France, this large and mysterious castle strikes awe and wonder in people. At night, the lights of the castle reflect off the blue still water, creating an allusion. Inside you are engulfed by high arches, cloisters, and green courtyards.

5. Birr Castle

I’m sure this is one you likely haven’t heard of. I remember a few years ago flipping through Architectural Digest and seeing pictures of this castle glazed across the pages. I was so entranced by it that I have not forgotten. You can find this castle in the town of Birr in Ireland. The castle itself is not open to the public but the grounds are! Walking through the simple and green grounds you feel like you are the only one that lives here. There are gardens, bridges, and lakes. One could never be bored here. And I personally love not going inside the castle. Leaves more for the imagination.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
