I’ve done it! I’ve officially turned in my last major assignment (besides finals, of course) to my professor. I have a couple minor things to complete and a few finals in a couple weeks that I could study for, but other than that I am finished!

For those who are in the same boat as I am, maybe you’ve started to feel the first hints of boredom creeping into your life. Sure, you could start reviewing your notes for finals or work on those assignments that are due next week, but you don’t really want to. You have time, right? (We’re going to pretend you do because I’m pretending I do.)

So what do you do when you’re bored and have ~nothing~ to do?

1. Read a book.

You know, those things you devour in the summertime but haven’t picked up this whole year? You tell everyone you read a lot, but deep down you know the only books you make time for are the ones that are assigned for class, and sometimes not even those. It’s hard to make time to read these days, but if you have the time then you have the perfect excuse to pick up that book you unpacked in September. It’s been waiting for you.

2. Explore your city.

I cannot tell you how much fun I’m having discovering New York City. On the days when I feel like I have a couple hours to spare, I’ll look at the list I created at the beginning of the year detailing everything I wanted to do in the city and see if I can make any of it happen! From Chinatown to Brooklyn to the Empire State Building, there is so much I have left to discover.

3. Start a blog.

This one is more for the writers out there who have always wanted to create a blog but felt they couldn’t devote enough time to it. Now’s your chance! Pick a topic, create a domain name, and get writing.

4. Binge watch… something.

This honestly should not be on the list because you know you do it already, but I’ll include it anyway because of all the great shows that have been coming out lately. See if Thirteen Reasons Why strikes your fancy or abuse your free HBOGo account (courtesy of NYU) to watch Big Little Lies with Nicole Kidman! Or start one of the old favorites (Gilmore Girls is still relevant!) so you can finally talk about them with friends!

5. Make time for yourself.

This is hard to do in college when we are forced to socialize pretty much 24/7. Don’t get me wrong, this can be a good thing. And yet, going from your study group to dinner with friends to classes with a bazillion people to heading back to your 3-person bedroom can be a lot to handle. Make some time for yourself by taking a walk through Washington Square Park alone or getting a manicure at a nearby nail salon. It doesn’t even have to cost money, you can give yourself a spa day in the dorm and turn off your phone. Whatever you do, make sure it’s just for you!

Spring Semester is ending soon, guys, so if you have been experiencing boredom, try to take advantage of wherever you are. Maybe you don’t go to NYU, but you probably have a lot to explore in your own college’s city. Take the time to plan an excursion so that when you’re feeling restless, you don’t have to look up an Odyssey article for ideas on what to do!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
