Summer is full of many things, but one thing we all have in common is that we love to sit by the pool and watch our skin turn from pasty white to a bronze glow. Books have always helped me to be able to sit outside longer because I get so into them that I cannot put them down. Here are some awesome books to help entertain you on your pool days.
1. "Looking for Alaska" — John Green
This is my favorite John Green book out of his popular four. It's about this boy who is hopelessly in love with this girl who goes missing and the last half of the book is about him finding her. In the end he ends up finding himself, which is really beautiful.
2. "Sam's Letters to Jennifer" — James Patterson
This is a sweet story about two epic love stories that combine into one. Jennifer goes to stay at her grandmother, Sam's, house while she is in a coma and finds letters she has written to Jennifer about her secret love story with someone who was not her husband. All the while Jennifer is creating a complicated love story of her own. It will definitely make you appreciative and shed some tears!
3. "An Abundance of Katherines" — John Green
Another great John Green classic love story in a twisted way. This one is about Colin who has dated 19 girls named Katherine and has just been recently dumped so he goes on a road trip with his best friend. They end up in a ordinary town with an extraordinary girl, Lindsey. While trying to boost his prodigy status to a genius status, Colin spends the whole summer working on a theorem about getting dumped while all the while he falls in love with Lindsey. I'm not going to tell you if everything works out, because that would spoil the story, but just know this will make you laugh and cry.
4. "The Last Song" — Nicholas Sparks
We've all seen the movie and fallen in love with Miley and Liam from the beginning, but the book makes you feel completely different and shows parts of the story you didn't even know existed. I recommend reading this and seeing the emotion written through words that couldn't be expressed through the acting.
5. "If I Stay" — Gayle Forman
Another movie that made us bawl our eyes out, and the book does no less. This amazing story of different kinds of love and what people will do for each other really makes you think in a new way. It reminds you that tomorrow is not promised and life is full of choices. A good page turner to keep you captivated through the day.
I hope you enjoy all of these as much as I did! Of course, the book choices are endless, but these are just some of my favorites. Happy summer reading!
