5 Bible Verses For A Struggling College Student

Being away at college means that you are exposed to an all new people, experiences and responsibilities. For the most part, you have to grocery shop on your own, wash your own clothes, and wake yourself up to go to class. However, there will be days where you feel as if you have hit rock-bottom and overwhelmed by the weight of daily tasks. There are many verses that relate to common situations you encounter in college. Here are five to get you started that have helped me through times when I felt completely helpless.

1. "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11

This verse has really been my go-to verse for basically all situations. When you feel successful, remember God still has the steering wheel. Even in times when you feel like a failure, He has you in the palms of His hands. He will never leave you.

2. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Philippians 4:6

This verse really didn't hit home for me until my first semester in college when I became anxious and stressed, and I didn't know what I was going to do with my life. There was a point when I beat myself up so much that I didn't even want to get out of bed. Out of the blue, I saw this verse written in chalk on the sidewalk outside of my dorm. In every situation, we must give all our worries to God and thank Him for what He has blessed us with.

3. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:5-6

This has constantly been something I have struggled with. Sometimes when we become overwhelmed, we do one of two things: give up, or try to handle everything ourselves. Sometimes when we feel helpless, we may not think to stop and give our worries to God. However, the relief of giving our worries to Him, knowing He will make things good again, is better than any other feeling in the world.

4. "Jesus looked at them and said, 'with man this is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God.'" Mark 10:27

This verse is just beautiful. Its simplistic meaning speaks for itself. No matter what obstacles we face, nothing is impossible with God. Whenever I feel overwhelmed with school and work, I just have to remind myself that ALL things are possible with God.

5. "... and surely I am with you always, to the very end of age." Matthew 28:20

There is more to the beginning of this verse, but I find beauty in the end of this verse because it's Jesus basically saying, "I am with you until death." He is with us everywhere we go and in everything we do. He is with us in the classroom, at work, and at home. He is always protecting us.

There are so many verses that we can turn to when we are worried, stressed, anxious, or sad. The five I listed are short, sweet and to the point. In case you ever forget, Jesus loves you, cares for you and always accepts you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
