Southeastern Brunswick County is a place of its own. There's beaches, small towns, farms, festivals, etc. It is hard to pick my favorite thing to do around here, so this list is in no order!
1. Farmer's Markets galore!
Possibly my favorite market is Sunset Beach. It is on the intracoastal, has a ton of vendors, is pretty shaded, and has live music from 11-2. It is held every Thursday during the summer from 9-2! There is also the Shallotte Farmer's Market in the new Mulberry Park, with many vendors. It is held every Saturday from 8AM-noon. Holden Brother's Farm Market is on Highway 17, and it has every single thing you can imagine. From boiled peanuts to tomatillos to homemade candies, it is a local favorite! You can pick strawberries or grab your pumpkins in the fall. You can find great produce and local foods all around us!
2. The beaches, duh.
We have Ocean Isle Beach, Holden Beach, Sunset Beach, and the intracoastal. They are really a beautiful sight. You can see beautiful weddings most days on the beach, our churches around here do beach baptisms, which is always a wonderful thing to experience, and there's volleyball courts, bocce ball, or corn hall to play! My favorite thing is to cruise up and down the streets in my car with the windows down and the music up!
3. The free concerts!
This picture was taken at the Ocean Isle Beach concert (I am in the background in the blue shirt with the curly blonde hair). They have a new band every week on Fridays at 6:30, but make sure to get there early to set your seats up! It is so fun to dance with everyone and have fun right on one of the canals! Sunset Beach has one on Wednesdays at 7, and while the population is a little bit older at those, they are still fun! Mulberry Park is lit up on Thursdays for the Shallotte concert series at 6:30. Holden Beach concerts are held on Sundays at 6:30, also.
4. St. Nick Nacks/Callahan's
This store is located in Callahan's Gift Shop in Calabash, and it really is one of the best things to do. You can wander around both stores for hours at a time and not even scratch the surface! AS the name implies, it is a holiday store with all sorts of Christmas trees, ornaments, collectibles, and they even have Halloween and other holiday-themed things in there also! You can go for dinner at Ella's, the Boundary House, Beck's or Captain George's and then stop at Callahan's and St. Nick Nacks afterwards for some more fun!
5. Take a long ride through Ash and Grissettown.
There is so much beautiful farmland to be seen. It almost always smells like fresh cut grass or vegetables. You can see miles and miles of tobacco, corn, and other goods grown locally! You're almost guaranteed to spot at least one deer. It is so refreshing to ride the old small country roads away from the highways. This is probably my favorite thing to do when I'm feeling bored!
