We all are aware that winter is the best time of year (obviously) but here are some of the best parts of the holiday season:

1. Desserts (and the hot cocoa)

Close your eyes and imagine holding a warm cup of hot chocolate with tons of fluffy marshmallows on top. Now open your eyes and go grab yourself some! Winter desserts are the best. From the sugar cookies, fudge, gingerbread men, and peppermint bark to the more traditional trifle and yule logs, there are so many delicious options to choose from. And the best part: no one cares about counting calories during the Christmas season. How could you count calories when there's peppermint bark sitting right there? It would be a shame to let it go to waste.....

2. Christmas Lights

During the rest of the year, houses are so plain. But for one or two months a year, they are lit up and glowing with multi-colored lights. The yards are also filled with inflatable reindeer and Santas. Some families even go as far as to turn their houses into a light show, set to the tune of music. Driving through neighborhoods at night to see all the beautiful decorations has become a tradition for many, including me. The lights and decorations brighten the darkness with their Christmas cheer.

3. Snow

Back in elementary school, we used to have a raffle over who could guess the first snowfall. We were all so excited to see snow so typically all the guesses were placed way too early. I think one year, I guessed a date before Halloween. Oops! Fast forward to today, and that excitement and anticipation over snow still is strong. Once the snow hits, the snowball fights, snowmen building, and sledding begin.

4. Gift Giving

The holiday season is not all about giving yourself joy, it is also about spreading to others. That's why I love gift giving! There is nothing more rewarding than spending time trying to figure out the perfect present for your loved ones and then seeing their face when they unwrap it from the festive wrapping paper. By giving, you are gaining the true joy of the holiday season. Giving during the holidays can come in many forms! You can compliment someone's Christmas sweater, bring them some cookies, or even just give them a hug under the mistletoe. Try giving this holiday season and see how it changes your outlook!

5. Jesus' Birthday

The BEST part about the holidays is being able to celebrate the birth of our savior, Jesus Christ. He IS the reason for this season. As Isaiah 9:6 proclaims, "For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon his shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Almighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." He is the best present anyone could give or receive this season and a great presence of peace during winter.

There are so many great aspects of winter, especially during the holiday season. Go out and enjoy them and feel the Christmas spirit. Happy Birthday Jesus and Merry Christmas to all!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
