As summer 2016 comes to a close and a new school year begins, one has to wonder where the summer went. The summer went by exceptionally quick and it’s back to getting on track with school work. As the saying goes “time flies when you’re having fun”, proves to be the case every summer because the summer did just that. During the summer – I had a great time at home and enjoyed every minute of my break, but now it’s time to say goodbye until winter break. Before I say goodbye, I want to relive some of my favorite moments of the summer which I would never forget.
1. Watching the movie "Nerve" – BEFORE IT CAME OUT!
I know going to a movie isn’t the most exciting thing someone could do on a summer break, but if the movie was free and one was able to watch it a month before it arrived in theaters - it would be your favorite part as well. Nerve didn’t come out until July 27th; however, I was able to watch it the first week of July for a free screening at a select movie theater.
2. Traveling to AAU Basketball games with my family
My little cousin had us going everywhere from Virginia Beach to North Carolina, to see his basketball games. We would go almost every weekend or every other weekend to see him play for the entire summer. If I had nothing to do on the weekends – I knew exactly where I was going. Since I am a sports fan, it was a great experience to watch the games – I even had a chance to use my broadcasting major to record the games for him.
3. NETFLIX
I have recently become a Netflix fanatic and have started watching television shows from season one. The most awaited shows on my list were "Orange is the New Black" and "Degrassi: Next Class." I’m still watching them at the moment because I don’t want to watch it too soon and have to wait sometime for the new season to start. In addition, I have likewise watched a Netflix original movie, "The Do-Over," which was a great film with Adam Sandler.
4. The 2016 Rio Olympics
There is no better way to end my summer than with the most anticipated Olympics. The opening ceremony was absolutely beautiful and the events have been extraordinary exciting. The 2016 Rio Olympics has to be – this far- my favorite Olympics. My favorite athlete, Michael Phelps, keeps making history and letting the world know he is the best male swimmer in the world and the U.S.A gymnastics team has dominated the entire games. U.S.A continues to have the most medals and hopefully by the end of the games it stays that way.
5. Simply having a break!
Sometimes merely doing nothing was all I needed to have a successful break. I’ve had a great school year last year and simply having a break from it all was good enough for me. Not having to worry about school work or tests and giving my brain a break was all I was genuinely looking forward to during the summer.
