If you’re anything like me, your music taste is all over the place. I will listen to just about anything, and this trait has lead me to recently discovering some of my favorite artists and bands. Here’s a few you should check out.
1. Bad Suns
If you like anything related to pop alternative with a bit of indie rock, you’ll love this group. Led by vocalist Christo Bowman, this band has a very unique sound, stemming from the singer’s different sounding vocals but also tying in with their late 90s early 2000s sound. Their latest album Heartbreaker has a number of tracks that are perfect for spring and summertime.
2. Mansionz
This duo consists of popular artists Mike Posner and Blackbear, who have begun the collaboration going by the name of Mansionz. While they may not be everyone’s cup of tea, they provide a variety of different sounds throughout their album to appeal to many different audiences. Their ability to step outside of the box on this collaboration is something that should be noted and applauded, and I feel they did an excellent job of achieving their goal of making something unique.
3. LANY
The group LANY is known for being an opening act, but they recently embarked on their own tour and have since announced the release of their first album will happening in June of this year. Their ambient music is perfect for every scenario, and their sound is one of those that makes you want to go on a drive with the windows down. This band may be small now, but they are on their way to something much bigger.
4. The Japanese House
Getting their recognition from touring with popular UK band The 1975, The Japanese House is unlike anything I’ve heard before. Their lead vocalist is a perfect match for their airy, light tone of music, and it’s the perfect type of “getting ready in the morning” sound. You may think you’ve never heard their music, but if you watched 13 Reasons Why, episode one features Hannah on her bed texting whilst their song “Cool Blue” plays in the background. I would definitely recommend giving them a listen.
5. The 1975
You might have expected this one, and chances are you’ve heard their music. And before you claim to hate it, I highly encourage you to listen to more than just the singles. This band is getting the world talking, not only with their music but their tendency to address important issues and bring light to situations that need to be discussed. Lead singer Matty Healy doesn’t hold back in his viewpoints, nor in his vocals. Listen to songs like “Robbers” and “The Ballad of Me and My Brain” and you will hear a different kind of voice, unlike anything you’ve heard prior to listening to this band. I highly encourage you to check out more of this band’s discography than just their popular songs “Chocolate” and “Girls”. You’re bound to find something you love, I promise.
