5 Things To Do In Austin, Texas For Spring Break

Last spring break, I traveled to Austin, Texas for about five days. The weather was perfect, there was so much to do, and I got to explore a new city with my best friend! What more could a girl want? It was my first trip to Texas, but definitely not the last! I loved every minute. Here are some things you won't want to miss:

Texas State Capital

One of the tallest state capitals in the United States sits on Congress Avenue in downtown Austin. With part of the capital built underground, the inside is just as stunning as the outside. The guided tours are free, so check it out!

I Love You So Much Mural

This is a classic and popular photo- op. The words are written on the side of a building on a South Congress (SoCo). The words were sprayed on the wall by an artist to express love for her significant other. If you're in the area shopping or eating, you're sure to see people by it. It's a great place to take a photo and let everyone know you're in the best city in the Southwest! It completely compliments the relaxed, cool vibe that Austin has.

Segway through downtown Austin

For a fun activity that will cool you down and teach you a little about the city. We went in a group and had a tour guide who led us around the capitol and more of downtown. It's an entertaining way to immerse yourself in Austin, meet new people, and improve your seaway-ing skills.

Kayaking on the Colorado River

So, you've made it to beautiful Austin. Guess what? IT'S HOT. In the middle of March, we chose a 90 degree day that was perfect for being on the water. Steph and I got a two-person kayak for a few hours. The river winded through trees and under bridges and finally opened up to an up-close view of Austin's skyscrapers. After kayaking, we cooled off in the Barton Springs Pool.

Explore the city as you go!

The best part about our spring break vacation was that we didn't have many plans. If we had an idea of something we wanted to do during our stay, we did it! On our Segway tour, we drove by a beautiful old hotel that our tour guide pointed out as haunted. After the tour you know we had to check it out for ourselves

And the first night after our plane landed, we went to an arcade/bowling alley and just relaxed. On our last night, we went to a restaurant and tried crawfish and shark for the first time! Overall, it was one of the best vacations I've been on because it was spontaneous, exciting, new, and spent with my bestie.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
