We've all been there. You ask a friend or family member what they would like for a birthday, Christmas, or just-because, and they respond, "Well, I really just love reading." The panic sets in as you realize you have two options: buy them a Barnes and Noble/Books-A-Million gift card or try your hand at picking out a book they'd like (assuming they haven't already read it). While there is nothing wrong with a gift card, it may be that you want something a little more personal.
If you're nodding your head right now, read on. I have the perfect book lovers' gift-giving guide for you.
A Book Scarf
What is a book scarf? It's a scarf with passages from all kinds of literature on it. Stores like Etsy and Storiarts are going to be your best friends when it comes to this gift. This unique present does take thought, as you will need to know what piece of literature to get on the scarf, but it's a stylish gift and will keep your loved one warm while they read!
Book Candles
Book candles are another Etsy find of mine, but one that I can guarantee smells great! My favorites are "Book Cellar" and "Oxford Library." They smell just how they sound. The great thing about Frostbeard (the Etsy seller) is that they also offer sample packs if you aren't sure what scent to get. Now, if you happen to go to Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida, you're in luck because these candles are available at the campus bookstore!
A Book Bag
This isn't your traditional book bag. This is a bag...that looks like a book!
Many retailers sell these online. You might try an online store like Modcloth or you may luck out at a local boutique. There are many manufacturers and sellers to choose from, so get to Google-ing to find the perfect bag!
Book clothes, jewelry, and mugs, oh my!
I love books, so I really love finding shirts and socks that have my favorite books' covers on them. Now, if your book lover is into classic books, Out of Print is the site for you. I mean, look at what they have for The Great Gatsby:
From the Gatsby collection, I personally own the The Great Gatsby: First Edition T-shirt and the composition book with the same cover. Both items are great quality. This site features several books and authors so there is plenty to choose from! They also offer stickers, pencil pouches, coasters - you name it!
Another great site for book-themed apparel and accessories is Modcloth. Along with their wearable items, they also sell bags and actual books, as well as products from other sellers. For instance, check out these adorable quote earrings or this note card set.
Classic literary gifts
If you're feeling a little overwhelmed by the above websites, or if you just don't like online shopping, I have good news. There are a few things you can get a book lover from just about any book or department store that will never fail. For example, a book light (travel-size ones are awesome) or a special bookmark are thoughtful and useful gifts.
Books-A-Million has a great selection of literary gifts. Included in this line are beautiful, script-y bookmarks that feature quotes from all kinds of literature.
I hope this list has eased your worries and given you some gift-spiration. Book gifts are great because there is so much room to find meaningful, personal gifts for your friends and family. Words are incredibly special, and this is a great way to give them. Happy shopping (and reading)!
