45 Signs You Went to Overnight Camp

1. You don't mind going a week (maybe longer) without shaving.

2. Your wardrobe of cute summer clothes is very limited, because the only place you had to wear them was to the boys' camp (and even that is a stretch).

3. You have a strong opinion on whether its SOW-fee shorts or SAW-fee shorts.

4. You know what a Sugarlip is.

5. You own one. Maybe in every color.

6. Crocs were are cool.

7. You have a weird skill set: you can get out of the human knot, you know a lifetime supply of ice breaker games, and you know how to shoot an arrow on the archery range.

8. Everything you own has your name written or ironed in it.

9. You've learned that taking a shower daily is a suggestion, not a rule.

10. You know how to write a good letter (or at least one where you can pitifully ask for food).

11. You either loved your camp birthday or was crazy jealous of those who had one.

12. You know how to raise and fold a flag properly.

13. You memorized the camp address like its your own.

14. Preparing for a dance = going through all of your bunkmates closets, just to settle on something you already owned.

15. You come home missing some clothes and with clothes that your mom "knows does not belong to you."

16. You have "school friends" and "camp friends."

17. Your camp has its own song and you sing it loudly on the bus.

18. Certain songs will always remind you of camp. (Wonderwall, I'm looking at you).

19. Your super loud on the bus period. The counselors hate you for it, but you're having too much fun to care. Unless you're a counselor, and then you feebly request mandatory "quiet time."

20. Taking a trip out of camp was a jarring experience. You forgot there was a real world.

21. You have partaken in a tradition that nobody else will understand.

22. You have a lot of clothes with your camp logo on them. A lot.

23. Friendship bracelets determined the quality of a friendship.

24. Hell hath no fury than a camper who got their favorite activity rained out, but...

25. There was nothing more fun than being on "storm procedure" and having to sit in your bunk with the lights off... for hours.

26. You are a pro at choreographing a dance or creating a skit in under five minutes.

27. Who had the most comfortable folding chair (and who got to sit in it) was equivalent to who won an election.

28. You have a bunch of paper plate awards.

29. You know what an ego sheet is and you have those, too.

30. You also know what an NJB is. It's why you straightened your hair in the 95 degree weather.

31. When you win a movie night, you act like you've never seen technology before.

32. You have an insane amount of connections to camp. Someone always knows someone and even that makes you feel like you're home.

33. You know every single card game.

34. Coloring isn't childish, it's art.

35. Color Games was ridiculously fun and ridiculously exhausting.

36. You own a lot of tie-dye.

37. You understand how devastating the last night of camp can be, even though your counselors let you stay up all night.

38. Picking just one friend to walk to canteen, the infirmary, or the water fountain with you has an unreal amount of pressure.

39. You understand that the people living in your bunk can go from total strangers to sisters in the matter of hours.

40. Bonding almost always involves someone crying.

41. You have unparalleled skill for packing. It's amazing what can fit into a trunk.

42. You might have pierced your ear, cut your hair, or dyed something an unusual color (or all three).

43. You didn't get "homesick" at camp but you do get "campsick" at home.

44. Even if you only see your "camp friends" for the summer, when you all come back and reunite, it's like nothing has ever changed.

45. You've said, "I live 10 months of the year just waiting for two," and it's the most true thing you have ever said.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
