Some of us are long time residents of the quaint little town of Alma. Also known to it’s residents as “Scotland, USA”. Here are some ways to know you are a Scot.
- You know it is known as “tartan” as well as plaid.
- You say, “Go Scots” to just about anything.
- You have come to terms with the fact that the majority of people you meet will not know what the heck Alma College is.
- You have started to not mind the sound of bagpipes.
- You have seen many a man in a skirt.
- You miss Stucchi's.
- You mock the “Wait, Wait, Wait…” voice at Wright Ave.
- You probably have at least one picture with Scotty, the mascot.
- You know that President Abernathy can pop up everywhere.
- You have been forced to learn the words to the “Alma Mater.”
- You have gotten over having communal bathrooms.
- You know at least one person in the Kiltie Marching Band.
- You also know the difference between the Pipe Band and the Marching Band.
- You know or have started to learn most of the Greek letters.
- You know that both Gelston and Heritage Center are haunted.
- You curse Joe’s for not being open late on Saturday nights.
- You have taken loads of laundry out of the washer or dryer to make room for your own.
- When someone smiles at you, you question whether you know them or they are just being nice.
- You know that Munch Money is sacred.
- In turn, you know how to hoard your Munch Money.
- You know how to time it to get fresh scones at Highland Java.
- You have drank at least one Awkward Turtle.
- You have waited outside, in the cold, just for the Pizza One driver.
- You call the dining hall, “Saga” even though it is actually called Hamilton Commons.
- You have gotten used to one ply toilet paper (Sadly :( )
- You either love or hate Starbucks, there is no inbetween.
- You love Meijer and WalMart more than you did before college.
- You know you are golden if you get to park near your dorm.
- You have received at least one pine tree in your time at school.
- You know that getting a tartan tie is sacred. (Only the president has the power to give them out.)
- You know where President Abernathy lives and have probably been there before.
- It still shocks you that Sodexo makes our food as well as the food for prisons.
- You know that we were not always known as “The Scots.”
- You know that there is always an activity for anyone.
- You second guessed your choice of college when you were mobbed by people at move in.
- You usually become friends with your RA.
- You have at least one article of Maroon clothing.
- You have become very familiar with Moodle and PaperCut.
- You count down the days until Therapy Dog Night.
- You know that Alma is your family.
