40 Thoughts That Go Through My Mind During Rehearsal

Since I was about 10 years old, I've been playing cello, as well as learning how to play other instruments, like piano and guitar.. For those who are not familiar with this instrument, the cello is shaped exactly like a violin, except it's the size of a small child, and you play it sitting down. Between your legs. Joy.

In all honesty, I've really loved learning all the physics and history and musicality of it, because this tradition is hundreds of years old, and the next cello I'm getting was made in 1897!

For your further enjoyment, here is a picture of me playing cello as a loofah in high school.

A highlight of my life, if you can't tell.

Moving on, playing in an orchestra is fun, because your playing century-old music on century-old instruments. All that fun information aside, here are 40 thoughts I have in rehearsal:

1. I probably should have practiced more.

2. I hope he doesn't call on me.

3. I'm not prepared for this.

4. Maybe I'll fake it the whole time. I'll just move my arms a little bit to make him think I know what I'm doing.

5. Because, let's face it.

6. I have no idea what the hell I'm doing.

7. Crap, we're starting.

8. Just kidding. Now we're really starting.

9. Okay, not so bad.

10. I spoke too soon. Oh god, what was that chord?

11. Get your shit together, french horns.

12. Wait, where are we?

13. *anxiously looks around to see where everyone is*

14. My arms hurt.

15. Wow, a whole 11 measures of rest *naps*

16. And we stop again to tell the violins about yet another thing they are doing wrong.

17. "Too many cellos!" Is that our fault, maestro?

18. I'm not even playing at this point.

19. But we're playing really quietly.

20. Which is awesome.

21. I love my job.

22. *sees a hard passage coming up*

23. This is it.

24. This is how I go.

25. Goodbye cruel world.

26. *incoherent noises coming from my instrument*

27. That wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.

28. Oh, wait, now you're going to make only our section play it?

29. SOS!!

30. Please don't look at me. Please don't look at me.

31. Phew. We are moving on.

32. And now we've hit the Presto (which means as fast as humanly possible).

33. I hate my job.

34. This is both loud and fast. No one can hear this.

35. How is any of this fun.

36. Maestro, do not tell us this is fun.

37. But it's okay, because we just hit the ending of this symphony.

38. *drops baton*

39. Crushed it.

40. I love my job.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
