There's a lot of things to be bitter about in this world. There are things to be angry about. Sometimes we can't fix these things and it sucks. Here are 40 things to do instead of complaining.

1. Compliment somebody on something other than their appearance

2. Rethink your political views

3. Try to change your attitude about something you've always hated

4. Buy a bath bomb and use it

5. Watch a theater performance

6. Go to Half Priced Books and read the most hopeless romantic book you can find

7. Brainstorm your future childrens’ names

8. Drive to a different city and ask a stranger to show you around

9. Write a TV script for "The Office"

10. Eat mint chocolate chip ice cream

11. Own up to a mistake you'd rather forget about

12. Take your dog to the park, maybe you'll meet your future spouse there

13. Cut your hair dangerously short

14. Figure out what you like (in relationships, people, restaurants)

15. Buy those shoes that are way overpriced

16. Become friends with somebody who is nothing like you

17. Build back up a bridge you burnt down

18. Hammock over the lake and accidentally fall in

19. Jump in the pool with your clothes on

20. Pretend you're on “so you think you can dance”

21. Call your grandmother and ask her about her day

22. Pray

23. Buy a pet goldfish

24. Write about something you want to change

25. Apologize for that thing you did that nobody knows about

26. Go on a bike ride with your brother

27. Paint a picture, maybe of a sunset

28. Do something nice for somebody else that they can never return

29. Wear new makeup for no good reason

30. See how many miles you can run without throwing up

31. Go downtown and talk to the first homeless person you see

32. Meet a new group of people at a party

33. Rekindle an old friendship

34. Make a smoothie made up of only green things

35. Learn a new language

36. Go to a poetry slam

37. Look into the mirror until you like something you've always hated

38. Convince yourself a way you can change the world

39. Take a 30-minute nap

40. Put your happiness over your convenience

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
