40 Things You'll Do This Summer Without UMD

If we are being honest, there are a few times this summer where we have all thought of our beloved college. Even though we are glad that it’s summer, we miss being there so much. These thoughts are just a few times when you’ll think about UMD and how you wish you were back there.

Hearing a “frat party” song and just want to jump up and dance.

Talking to a cute boy/girl and wishing you were at school with them right now.

Looking at your transcript and wishing you could go back to class so you can change that grade.

Watching a Netflix show that you and your roommates would watch together.

Taking a summer class without any of your friends to help you.

Not seeing friends who live in a different state than you.

Seeing throwback pictures on your phone of a time when you were having so much fun.

Eating a slice of pizza and missing the pizza flavors you got at Slices.

Wanting a night out at Bentleys or Turf but not wanting it to be dead if you went there.

Getting annoyed with your parents and wishing you lived by yourself with some friends again.

When your fake ID won’t work at a hometown bar but it never failed at UMD.

Buying new clothes that you would wear to a party but have no party to go to this summer.

Seeing how expensive professional game tickets are when you got them for free at UMD.

Wishing you were at the beach during Away Weekend even though you’re stuck at home.

Going to your job and would be willing to take advanced classes over working.

Realizing how expensive alcohol is when you’re not at a UMD bar anymore.

When people ask why you wear so much UMD clothing when you’re not at school.

Going to Nandos with your family but wishing you were there with your friends at UMD.

Wishing you could join in on a game of beer pong or flip cup like you did at school.

Wishing Chipotle was in walking distance like it is at school.

Being too far away from your significant other when you were just an apartment away max at school.

Wanting to watch/be a part of a quidditch match again because quidditch is not a sport at home. Unless you go to Hogwarts.

Needing some luck but not having Testudo when you could just rub his nose.

Wanting a book to read or needing a book to do summer assignments with but not having McKeldin close by.

Having great places in D.C. close by so you can just metro in for a fun night out.

Wishing you had a happy hour to go to on a Friday afternoon.

Resorting to Tinder because you’re bored of hanging out with the same old people.

Feeling left out when your UMD friends are together but you’re not with them.

Having lively debates about why you’re for/against Greek life when no one would understand at home.

Loving everything about UMD even when no one else can see why.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
