4 Things To Know About March 24
EliteDaily

On Feb. 14 America's jaw dropped as we heard of another deadly shooting taking the lives of 17 individuals; 3 adults and 14 students. On a day that was suppose to be remembered for Valentines day, turned into a day full of somber and disgust. The students from Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL. will never be the same. Now we as Americans have a time and place to show our rights to protest one of the major issues facing America- gun violence. Our country has proven just how serious this issue is becoming and the students of stoneman douglas high have risen to congress to go head-on about gun violence issues.

Now it is our turn. Here are four major things to know about March 24.

1. The mission

The mission of the March for Our Lives is to raise awareness for gun violence. Many also hope this march will evoke change in congress. Emma Gonzalez, 18, survivor of the parkland school shooting states out of frustration, "adults like us when we have strong test scores, but they hate us when we have strong opinions." The students survivors have already rallied inside the state Capitol, protesting for change. Many state house members ignored the protests and exited through the side doors. The March for Our Lives will help add to the voice that the congressmen are neglecting.

2. Where is it held

The march will take place in Washington, DC on Saturday, March 24. According to the March for Our Lives website, the march will start at 12 p.m. and will be on Pennsylvania Avenue NW, between 3rd NW and 12th NW.

3. Who will be there

Funded by Oprah Winfrey and many other celebrities, the march will include students speakers, musical performances, and guests speakers on the topics of gun violence (Moyer, 2018).

4. Changing history

According to the Washington Post, organizers plan for 500,000 marchers so far to join the movement that is shaking the world right now. We can all agree some action needs to take place no matter what the action is. We all can show support for the need to change. Emma Gonzalez will go down in the history books as a gun control activist- the marches will too.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
