When you think about it, Taylor Swift’s lyrics can really apply to a lot of situations. For me, however, her lyrics have got me through some of the worst heartbreaks. No matter the reason you broke up, if you want to get into the feels, listen to some T-Swift. Growing up with her music, her happier songs have been the anthems to many of my best memories, but her sad songs really speak to a broken heart. People can say all the bad things they want about her because she dates so many famous guys, but those famous guys have inspired some of her best music and I love it all.
“Words, how little they mean when you’re a little too late.” - "Sad, Beautiful, Tragic"
This song, featured in her album "Red," was written during the time she was touring for the album. "Sad, Beautiful, Tragic" is about a love story with an ending that was less than ideal, but it was still supposed to happen. The song is said to be written about her parents and their divorce, but she never released what it was really about. This lyric, specifically, can apply to a heartbreak because sometimes during or after the breakup, there were words you realize were said that just were too late.
“I might be OK, but I’m not fine at all.” - "All Too Well"
"All Too Well" also from T-Swift’s album "Red" is said to be about her ex-boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal. This song is really a ballad that can apply to all breakups. It is a very dramatic song, but it has great meaning. The song really creates an image in the listeners head, and she talks about how this scene happens in fall and she remembers him looking at her and the cold face on her head. She remembers this certain instance with this man so well, but it hurts her to remember it. I think anyone who has been through a bad heartbreak can relate to the feeling of not even wanting to think about your significant other because it just brings to much pain.
“I’ve been giving out chances every time and all you do it let me down.” - "You're Not Sorry"
"You're Not Sorry" is my personal favorite breakup song that T-Swift has ever wrote, and I think it is a pretty typical breakup song that everyone can find a line in that relates to them. This song is about wasting time on a guy who never thought twice about you, but there are lines in this song that can apply to any heartbreak. The guy in this song came across as your perfect man, but it turned out that they wanted different things and it did not work out, and broke your heart a little bit. Honestly, I have used this song to help me in at least three breakups in my life.
“I wish I could run to you, and every time I don’t, I almost do.” - "I Almost Do"
I think that every girl can relate to this line after a breakup. You may not show it on the surface, but there can be this constant yearning to run back to your ex after you have broken up. It may take every ounce of self-restraint you have to not go back to that person, but you know it is better to be on your own. This person hurt you do deeply that you cannot go back to them, but your heart still aches for them. Taylor Swift is also said to have written this song about Jake Gyllenhaal, but that is neither confirmed nor denied.
Over the years, Taylor Swift has wrote many ballads that speak to the hearts of teenage girls, and I am forever grateful for her. She only gets better with age and I will always love her music.
