Summer break to me is not really a break. Some of my friends take summer classes or stay on campus. Others travel or stay at home with friends and family. Then there are some students, like me, who have to work. I love my summer job and the people I work with. The problem is, not all my friends work or have the same schedules as me. I am fortunate that during the school year, I do not have to work. My sole job during the semester is to be a student and make A's. That being the case, summer is my time to make enough money to last me the other eight months I'm in school. This has its pros and cons.
1. You can't sleep late.
I usually work the night shift, but it can also take up your entire day. Some days, I have opening shifts so while all my friends are sleeping till noon, I am up and at work by 7:30 sometimes.
2. My friends want to hang out.
I would love to hang out with you guys because I miss y'all! But I can't take off work. This is the only time I have to make enough money to last me the rest of the year. And, I have to give a lot of notice about when I need off.
3. Your friends are having fun and you're at work.
When you get off work, you check Facebook and group messages to see everyone hanging out without you. Just keep reminding yourself about the money you are making for the upcoming semester.
4. No spontaneous trips.
I'm not sure why exactly, but I have been asked several times to go on spontaneous trips. Nothing super crazy, just a road trip or go down to the beach. I would love to do these things, but....work is calling.
Don't get me wrong, I love my job! I love the people I work with, the enviornment and the purpose of the business. Sometimes it would be nice to hangout with everyone over the summer, but I just keep reminding myself that I will have the entire semester to see my friends.
