4 Spotify Features You Have To Explore Now

I am a music nerd. Nothing entertains me, calms me down or brings me up quite like music does. So, because of my love for tunes, Spotify is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me. I'm not even kidding. Spotify is incredible.

A few months ago, I decided to take advantage of Spotify's cheaper student rates and upgrade to premium for just $4.99 a month. After upgrading, I explored just about every feature the music sharing app has to offer, and I found some pretty cool things. If you're looking to add to your musical repertoire, here are some places to start.

1. New Music Friday

Every Friday, Spotify has a new playlist of all the new music you've got to hear now. The playlist features some well-known artists and some whom you've never heard of before. (This week featured a lot of Drake, and it was awesome.) Whether you know the artist or not, you're bound to find some awesome songs that will be on your weekend playlist.

2. Discover Weekly

Oh my god. Discover Weekly is life changing. It's a playlist that's made specifically for you every week based on what you've listened to in the past seven days. Because of this awesome feature, I've found a ton of bands and artists that I'd previously never even heard of before. Discover Weekly is the reason why I started listening to some of my favorite artists (Prelow and Blackbear, just to name a few), and everyone deserves to find some new music that feels like it's their little secret.

3. Genres and Moods

Spotify has playlists for literally every genre and mood you could ever imagine. Some of these genres range from the obvious ones, such as pop or hip hop, to the more obscure ones like focus music, funk and even spoken word. No matter how you're feeling, you'll find exactly what you want to listen to and probably discover some new music in the process.

4. Concerts

As if all those other features weren't enough, Spotify has a section on the app that lets you see which artists are going to be in your area in the near future. All you have to do is enter your location into the "Concerts" tab, and it displays a list of popular artists who are going to be near you soon. If you click on the artists, it takes you online to find out more information and purchase tickets. Sweet.

Spotify has only increased my love for music, and I hope it does the same for anyone else who chooses to explore the amazing app. If you're a sucker for all things music, you've got to check out every nook and cranny Spotify has to offer, and let your new playlists speak for themselves.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
