Why are friends so important to our mental health? Why are they so beneficial to our lives? Friends will always be there to support us, put down what they are doing to come to our aid, to help us become a better person, even if it means getting into a small argument, or a fight. They help us realize how foolish we can be sometimes, and how funny things can be with them around.
1. Friends laugh with us. Laughter creates a special bond that is hard to find anywhere else. It creates memories. Sometimes, all we need is a laugh, or a smile and having someone that knows us well enough to do just that is a tremendous help at times.
2. Friends help us realize our life is so much better with them just around the corner. We notice that we love having them around, even if we don't say it every day. We begin to be ourselves around them, even if it means being silly or being completely ridiculous. That's the beauty about friendships.
3. Friends help us grow. They help us become a better person. Sometimes, it means arguing, or being stubborn, but the right friends will always want to see us happy, and they will always go out of their way to make sure we are OK.
4. Sometimes life happens. Breakups happen, tragedies happen, and those nights when we're feeling "that type of way" creep up on us at our age, especially during the semester. We say we'll be fine if we're left alone but 99% of the time we need companionship. Luckily, our squad will always have our back.
True friendships are such an important part of living. They are the reason we laugh until we cry, and stop crying and laugh instead. The emotional bond we create with our friends can last a lifetime. True friendship supersedes age and distance. "Tell me who your friends are, and I'll tell you who you are" is a proverbial phrase many of us have heard in our lives, and it's simply one of the truest. Our friends always define who we are in one way or another, and its doing ourselves a disservice if we choose poorly.
