4 Reasons Why College Is The Time To Work On Yourself

You do you.

No one has it all together in the college years. There's a reason so many people say college is where you will find yourself and what you love.

It's easy to fall off track and lose focus. Boys, parties and the pressure to perform and fit in are all things that can make it difficult to find and work on yourself.

Life has an easy way of making you feel like you should put other people first. Yes, sometimes there's a time and place for that. College isn't one of those places.

College years should be your selfish years. You won't ever get this time back that should be all about you. Those four years should be all about you for four reasons:

1. You will never be this young again.

College is the final stage before the real world sets in. Pretty soon, you'll have endless responsibilities and even more demanding priorities. Before the time comes, take advantage of your young years and the time you have to do things you won't be able to do later on in life, like studying abroad. Being young gives you the opportunity to explore what's out there and to discover what you love.

2. Love and boyfriends can wait.

If you so happen to meet someone who sweeps you off your feet, good for you. I'm not saying its a shame if you're in a relationship in college. What I am saying is it is OKAY to be on your own. Go out with your girls, be independent, date a ton of guys. Just because every time you open your Facebook there's happy couples left and right, doesn't mean they're ahead of you in life because they are in a relationship. You can be amazing, all on your own,

3. Your ambitious goals and dreams are waiting for you.

It's easy for those around us to tell us what we should want. Switch your major even if it means adding a semester of school, even if your parents tell you its a horrible idea. Only you know what you want and what's going to make you happy. Don't listen to anyone but yourself. In the end it's you that has to live with the decisions you make. Set amazing and ambitious goals, and don't stop until you have everything you've ever dreamed of.

4. Focusing on yourself will leave you with little to no regrets in the end.

If you know you poured every ounce you had into bettering yourself and making yourself happy, you won't look back and wish you'd done things differently.

Life is so short. If you can't live and be happy with who you are, who will?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
