The Oscars is Hollywood’s end-all be-all award show. The grandfather of award shows, if you will. The Oscars started way back in 1929 and since then has become somewhat of an obsession for most of America. The one night a year in early spring where everyone can sit back on their couch and watch Hollywood’s finest enjoy a night out. Almost 40 million people watch the Oscars every year and they are not disappointed. So, here are four reasons why you should be turning into Hollywood’s biggest night of the year
1. Performers/Presenters
It’s no secret that the Oscars pull in Hollywood’s royalty. People like Brad Pitt, Steven Spielberg, and Jennifer Lawrence will all be in attendance. But the people that really matter are the ones the Academy chooses to present and perform during the broadcast. These people are carefully chosen, as they tend to represent the Academy while on stage. The 2016 Oscars are no different, with renowned actors such as Steve Carell, Julianne Moore, Jared Leto, and Reese Witherspoon all accepting the honor to present at the show. The performers are just as amazing, including Lady Gaga, Sam Smith, and The Weekend. This varied cast of performers and presenters is sure to keep the pace of the show upbeat and make sure everyone has an amazing time.
2. Songs
The Oscars may be an award show for movies, but the Academy does put a lot of importance on music as well. They even have their own category for best soundtrack because a movie would lose a lot of emotion if there was no music surging in the background. The Oscars hosts a number of amazing performers, like the ones listed above, who add so much to the show. For instance, no one can forget Lady Gaga’s performance of the “Sound of Music” medley during the 2015 Oscars. This just goes to show that the music should never be forgotten.
3. The Outfits
One thing that almost defines the Oscars are the outfits. The ladies wear the most beautiful gowns and the men always look handsome in their tuxedos. So much importance is placed on the outfits, that oftentimes the wearers don't even get to keep the clothes. Designers like Valentino and Vera Wang present custom-made dresses and suits that are only meant to be worn that one time. This aspect of the Oscars is so important that the following week is filled with articles discussing "Who Wore It Best" and "The Best and Worst Dressed of the Oscars."
4. Leonardo DiCaprio
This reason should be no surprise to anyone who keeps up with the Oscars and is probably the most important reason you should tune in this year. It's no secret Leo is a phenomenal actor, just take a look at his long list of roles in movies like "What's Eating Gilbert Grape," "Titanic," "William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet" and "Django Unchained." His most recent film, the one he is up for an Oscar for, is titled "The Revenant" and Leo went above and beyond to perfectly portray his character, even sleeping in an animal carcass. Some say Leo won't win an Oscar this year, possibly because it's a running joke in the Academy to not give him one.
So tune in on February 28 to see the amazing outfits, hear the wonderful songs, laugh and cry along with the presenters and performers, and see if Leo wins an Oscar or not.
