Not all summers are created equal. As a Michigander myself, I am fortunate enough to experience Michigan in its full glory year-round. Us Mitten State dwellers take our summers quite seriously, due to the never-ending activities we crave year-round. When the weather finally breaks, and summer rolls around, it's truly an experience to be reckoned with.
1. We've waited months for this.
If you are from Michigan, you understand the length and unpredictability of our seasons. Unfortunately, we only get to enjoy a mere three months of summer-like weather. The other seasons dominate our calendar, leaving us to spend our days clothed in rain gear or winter apparel. All in all, when summer finally makes its appearance, we choose to make the most of it.
2. Lakes.
Chances are, if you live in Michigan, you are within thirty driving minutes of a lake. Boating, swimming and beach activities could arguably be some of the most common summer past-times in Michigan. In addition, if you are lucky enough to live near one of our Great Lakes, then you are lucky enough to see such beautiful coastlines.
3. Camping.
With an abundance of lakes, comes an abundance of campgrounds. Michiganders love being outdoors in the summer, so why not pretend to be mountain men, or women, for a few days? After spending your days hiking, canoeing, or traveling around the beach, you can come back to the site, start a campfire, and surrounded yourself amongst good food and friends.
4. Tourist attractions.
Michigan is home to some of the best touristic attractions in the United States. Locations such as Traverse City, Grand Haven, Mackinaw Island, Saugatuck, and the Sleepy Bear Dunes are world-famous. Not only will you enjoy the scenery, but you will enjoy the historical appeal within these hot-spots as well.
Summer in Michigan is time well-spent. There is a reason we pride ourselves as being Michiganders. We are blessed to live in such a place that provides its residents with endless summer fun, resulting in even better memories.
