I remember from a very young age music was always a big part of my life. Every morning on the way to preschool my dad would play Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA” and we would sing along together. From this young age, I knew that I loved music. While I may not have a favorite band or even a favorite genre I am a huge fan of music and here are a couple reasons why you should love music too.
1. Music means something different to every single person that listens to it.
One amazing thing about music is that it belongs to you as much as it belongs to the artist. Now, I don’t mean that you have the right to sell it for a profit or anything like that (That can certainly land you in trouble). However, you do have the right to interpret the music any way you want to.
Every single one of us is so different and we can draw meaning from the same thing in many different ways and it is so amazing that music allows us to do this. If I listen to a song and interpret it to mean one thing, you can take it a whole different direction if you like and that song can mean whatever you want it to and that is absolutely incredible.
2. Music can cause you to feel emotions.
Another beautiful thing about music is that it can make us feel certain emotions. For example, I love to listen to live worship music because it makes me feel like I am in the presence of God with my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ right alongside of me.
Music can also make you feel many other emotions as the possibilities are endless with music. What makes it so amazing to listen to music is the way that you feel while listening to a certain song is so incredible that you can’t even put it into words. That is what I love about the emotions that music makes you feel.
3. Performing for others is an incredible feeling.
Over the course of the past 8 years I have been involved in band at the middle school, high school, and college level. I have got to perform at many venues including Carnegie Hall in New York City and the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX.
Music has given me a means to travel all across the country and I love it for that because, traveling is another passion that I have. I have been a part of some life changing performances that have shaped me into the person that I am today and I wouldn’t trade them for anything in the world. I truly believe that a musical experience can be just as emotional for the performer as the audience.
I think all of my fellow band nerds out there would agree with me. If you want to be a performer I encourage you to seek out opportunities in your community and see what music can do for you.
4. Live music is an amazing experience.
I have had a lot of experience with live music from performing it in band and going to concerts to listening to it every single Sunday at church and I absolutely love it.
Being in the presence of performers that are so passionate is incredible. When someone performs and you can feel their passion for the music it is such an amazing experience. You know that they generally care that you are listening to their music and they love that you have come to support them. It is definitely amazing to be able to see performers thank you for coming to their concerts and you know that they are being 100 percent genuine.
Live music is an amazing experience that I believe everyone should enjoy whether that be performing for thousands in a giant stadium or listening to karaoke night on a cruise ship.
God has given us an amazing gift that is Music and I hope this inspires you to enjoy it as much as I do.
