1. Wet, “Don’t Wanna Be Your Girl”
It’s hard to craft a shimmery pop song that hits you right in the feels without sounding contrived. Wet’s “Don’t Wanna Be Your Girl” may or may not make you feel better about how your exam week went, but I guarantee that you’ll appreciate a refreshing spray of synth and guitar on your face after a week of finals.
2. The Japanese House, “Still”
The Japanese House is probably music’s next big thing. The one-woman musical act will blow your mind with “Still,” a smooth, synthy piece that will take your breath away to the point where you think you’re having a cardiac arrest.
3. Ingrid Michaelson, “Parachute”
If I could personify “Parachute” into a human being, she would probably be the loyal, empathetic friend who will always catch you if you fall. Maybe this week didn’t turn out as well as you thought it would, but there’s always that one friend you can count on to cheer you up even in the saddest of times.
4. First Aid Kit, “Emmylou”
A duo of Swedish twins, First Aid Kit combines country, folk pop, and blues into a smooth blend of striking melodies and croons. “Emmylou” is a good start, but you should also check out “My Silver Lining” and “The Lion’s Roar” if you have time.
