When it comes to skin complications, going to the store and buying the first face wash on the shelf that claims it’s the solution to your problem seems to be the sensible thing to do. While a lot of these brand name face scrubs and creams are effective, why waste the trip if you could get the same results from the all natural products you have in your kitchen?
1. Coconut Oil Face Mask
If your skin feels dry, make this face mask after you take a shower or wash your face! Mix a teaspoon of coconut oil with about a third of a banana respectively (just a heads up, canola oil will not have the same effect so do not substitute). Add a bit of milk for consistency, then evenly apply it on your face and leave it for about 10 minutes. In addition to making your skin feel baby smooth, coconut oil has also been proven to help accelerate the healing process of wounds!
2. Brown Sugar and Honey Scrub
Mixing about a teaspoon of honey and half a teaspoon of brown sugar creates a perfect textured scrub to help exfoliate away any dry dead skin and clean out your pores.! This can help with when skin gets too oily or even too dry and decides to start breaking out. Adding milk to the mixture makes it less sticky, thus creating the consistency of an exfoliating facial scrub you would pay top dollar for at the grocery store.
3. Cucumber Face Pads
Because our skin and cucumbers have a matching pH, this gives cucumbers the magical power to aid the healing process of the skin! This also helps in the constant battle of preventing acne. Drizzling a bit of honey (and again, milk for consistency) onto a slice of cucumber, and then using the cucumber to rub the mixture on your face will clear your pores. Of course, remember to wash it off thoroughly when you’re done to avoid stickiness.
4. Greek Yogurt!!
Yogurt is practically magical for your skin. This doesn’t mean the strawberry Yoplait that’s in your refrigerator, but unflavored Greek yogurt provides a great texture for the base of some natural face masks. The lactic acid in the yogurt is good for evening the skin tone, and you can mix a variety of different fruits in it for different results! Mix it with pears to open your pores, or ripe strawberries and cherries for a nice little anti-aging cream!
So next time you’re about to walk down that aisle and buy yourself some Neutrogena or some Clean and Clear, check your pantry first! These cheap alternative options are completely natural and chemical free, and can benefit your skin as much as the leading value brand.
