I know for certain that all of you have seen and experienced the horrific aftermath of "the dress" post since its arrival on social media. It ended friendships and families, but even after the nuclear fallout that this garment caused, we stand stronger than ever today. Though the dress first caused a war, it left us with several lessons that we must hold dear.
1. The world is not black and white (or white and gold or blue and black)
Everyone disagrees now and then because the world is not easily definable. We all come from different backgrounds, cultures, countries, landscapes, etc. so there is no way that you can agree with another person all of the time. If we all perceived the world around us exactly the same way, that would be pretty dull. People have many different opinions; learn to love the diversity!
2. Family and friends are irreplaceable.
Your mother is still your mother even if she sees the dress as white and gold. This dress split apart family ties and bonds of friendship. The remainder of us who are still communicating with the significant others in our lives know that no mere dress should tear our lives in two. People are the most important part of your life, not their opinion on the color of a dress.
3. You are unique.
You see the world in a unique way. Sure the dress inspired two sides, white and gold or blue and black (as well as the outliers who could see both colors) but do you really think that everyone could see the same shades of blue or gold? No, probably not. You had your own interpretation for this insane debacle, an idea that no other person shared. The dress may have united us into teams, but remember that you are not blue and black or white and gold. You are you!
4. Take a minute to reevaluate your reality.
The dress inspired some confusion and fear as well as a full blown existential crisis, which is not such a bad thing after all. Like I said earlier about the world being more than black or white, everyone experiences reality in a different way and it is not such a bad thing that we realize this. Think about how you see the world around you and see if you see some places that need a change.
