It's hard to be healthy in college. Amidst schoolwork, independent living and a social life, taking care of your body can be easy to place low on your list of priorities. These blogs are geared toward practicality, with easy recipes and suggestions for wholesome eating.

1. Healthy. Happy. Life.

This blog is written by Kathy Patalsky. Healthy. Happy. Life. is full of vegan recipes and helpful hints about nutrition. Don't be scared by the word vegan. I am not a vegan or vegetarian, but I still find my way back to her site at least once a week to try something new. Because Kathy is vegan, she shares so many different ways to get all the goodness you need. On a college budget, I have replaced some ingredients for convenience, such as flour or milk varieties. Her recipes are colorful, delicious and simple. Many times, all you need is a blender - great for college! Beautiful and doable.

2. Simple Green Smoothies.

Dorm living makes cooking kind of a hassle. You have to lug all your pots and pans up from home and carry it to the nearest kitchen (not to mention cleaning all the dishes afterward). Simple Green Smoothies is a great website/blog that only requires a blender. I have a single-use Ninja that works perfectly. Friends Jadah Sellner and Jen Hansard started SGS with practical, healthy living in mind. They do 30-day green smoothie challenges, where they email you your grocery list for each week of smoothies. No thinking required! Smoothies are a great, easy way to get a nutrient-rich breakfast before morning classes.

3. Minimalist Baker.

Who's not already excited by the title of the blog? The authors, Dana and John, are not only a pretty cute couple, but also love finding ways to make delicious, good-for-you food more attainable. The website is "devoted to simple cooking. All recipes require 10 ingredients or less, one bowl or one pot, or 30 minutes or less to prepare. Most are plant-based and gluten-free." 'Nough said. To the health-conscience college student, it doesn't get much better than that.

4. Yummly.

So it's not really a blog, but Yummly is a website (and now app) full of recipes from all over the internet. What makes Yummly so unique is its wide range of services. You create an account and are able to filter any dieting preferences you may have. You can type in an ingredient you may have laying around, a cooking method you want to try, or a particular entree you have in mind. With whatever you search, Yummly can offer recipes geared to your already specified tastes and lead you to many food websites/blogs yet undiscovered. It also allows you to save and organize all you find; a digital cookbook, if you will. This flexibility is great for the college student looking for a convenient way to use that pile of quickly ripening bananas, or curious about microwaveable mug recipes.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
