4 Things College Students Are Thankful For This Thanksgiving

Coming home for Thanksgiving makes any college student happy. We get to see our friends, get to sleep in our own beds, and get a break from school. This is what we need right before things start to head straight for finals and all the projects. It's a great way to unwind and forget about things for a while. I know I was supper excited to head home and get some actual food, not that I don't love the food my school provides, but having a home cooked meal makes any of us excited. Thanksgiving is a time to relax and take a brain vacation for a few days. We all need it to, especially the freshman that are freaking out over how to deal with the stress of the end of their first semester. I know that's where I am right now. But these are some things all college students look forward to.

1) Seeing Old Friends.

I for one was so excited to get home to see my friends from high school. It had been 2 or 3 months since I've seen some of them and the excitement I got from planning a hang out with them was enough to make me want to drop everything and go home. And having to say goodbye again was harder than the first time. But then we realized we had a month before we'd see each other again!

2) Seeing Family!

I mean why wouldn't this be the best part about break? You get to see your family and if yours is anything like mine the whole day (or weekend) will be one big party with the insane bunch that you love so much. From games to the crazy drunk uncle, the holiday couldn't be more fun to spend with family. Especially if this is one of the only times you'll see some of them all year long. Best part of Thanksgiving is family. Always.

3) THE FOOD!

Four words. Turkey. Mashed potatoes. Gravy! Three more words. Home. Cooked. Meals! Something us college students live for when we come home. Especially when we get to have so much cooked and not have to do any of it ourselves! But the best part. The absolute best part of this food? Leftovers! Containers upon containers of left over turkey, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, corn, stuffing, and of course stuffing!

4) Sleep!

We can actually sleep in for as long as we want to! If you are anything like me, the thought of this made you want to cry of happiness. Sure we have the weekends to sleep in but we eventually have to get up and do our homework. But now we actually have almost a week to get the work done which means, hello 1 pm wake up times and goodbye 8 am alarms! The relief you can get from switching those alarms to off is amazing! It takes a huge weight off your shoulders and bags from under your eyes.

Sure we'll be back on Monday to classes and everything will set back in but these few days of freedom will be worth it. Especially since it means only 3 or 4 weeks of classes and tests before we get to be home for a month! I'm sure we all already have count downs to that! I know I do. But for now chow down on the turkey and sleep as much as you can. It'll be worth it. Just relax and have fun this holiday and BE SAFE! No need to hurt ourselves.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
