It being summer and all, one thing I love doing is reading on the beach. With the long weekend right around the corner and school slowly approaching getting the brain thinking and functioning is important! I decided to go through some of my favorite self help books that I love reading over and over because they are a awesome pick me up, or quick read for the summer. I have found that these types of books have become my favorites to read because they are more about helping, motivating and inspiring rather than a story. All these books can be relatable, empowering and so much more no matter what stage of life you read them at.

1. Did I Ever Wake Up

This book was written by Mod Sun and it is absolutely worth the read. For everyone who doesn't know Mod Sun, he wrote this book in order to teach everyone how to make their lives a dream. Although he might not be everyone's cup of tea, this book definitely is. He shares his tips on how to succeed at life, stay positive, and get on the right track which is helpful in any situation. Whether you are feeling lost, or even in the happiest mood ever, this book will open your eyes and make you feel on top of the world. Personally, even though his music isn't my favorite, this book has become one of my favorites ever. He writes as if you are talking with him and it really motivates you and inspires you! I recommend it to anyone (Just like the rest of these books, haha)

2. You Are A Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life

This book was Jen Sincero and it was a New York Times Bestseller. The author writes and gives a fun but feminine self help tips to motivate you. She outlines a system and a specific way of thinking about life. Dealing with all things like forgiveness, honesty, gratitude, and learning from experiences. Plus, humor is all throughout the book, making it even better and easier to read. If you are looking for a little push and motivation, this is your book. After reading you'll know who you are, what you should be doing and how to get there, and who doesn't love a little direction in life when you're feeling lost.

3. Make it Happen: Surrender Your Fear. Take the Leap. Live On Purpose

This one is written for all my ladies out there who know the struggle and pressure to be perfect in today's society whether that be with their looks, careers, or bodies. The author, Lara Casey wrote this book and is the story of how she threw away her fears and landed the life she always wanted. She makes you feel like you are friends just meeting and telling your life stories to each other. She shares her struggles, fears and can be very relatable to all women. She teaches you how to overcome these fears, break down any barriers, and find success in life.

4. How to Win Friends & Influence People

I haven't read this book yet, but last semester when I was studying for finals in the library, I spotted someone reading this and it looked so interesting just from the title itself. So from what I have learned from reading up on this book, it seems worth the read as well. It speaks about how to climb up the ladder of success in your business and personal life. The original was one of the first best selling self help books ever published. The book has tons of tips on how to become more likeable, if you are lacking in the friend department, but not in some weird type of way. It teaches you how to be the best you, and succeed in whatever you do with having people like you at the same time. It can improve social skills, which many people need no matter what age, and be open to others opinions and ideas. People skills are necessary in almost any job, so this book is a must read for any college kid out there.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
