Sometimes when you're struggling, you can't think of the words to describe how you feel. Then, you find a book that does it for you. These four books do just that.
1. "The Fault In Our Stars" - John Green
If you haven't heard of this book, you must have been living under a rock for the last few years. John Green is able to tell the love story of Hazel Grace Lancaster and Augustus Waters, two teenage cancer patients, so convincingly that you feel like you're experiencing it with them. I have yet to find a book that made me feel the things that this one did, breaking my heart into a million pieces and leaving me a mess for weeks. As said in the book, "Pain demands to be felt." You'll definitely feel it with this one.
2. "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" - Stephen Chbosky
If ever there was a book that perfectly encompassed the stressful feelings of being a teenager, this is it. Charlie is a troubled high school freshman struggling with depression. He finds a group of friends that help him to figure himself out. It's a quick read, but an amazing one, and will leave you feeling a little bit more understood.
3. "Paper Towns" - John Green
This book, another by John Green, is nothing like anything you'll ever read. What seems like your typical teenage love story quickly turns into something else entirely. In this coming-of-age story, Quentin Jacobsen goes through his senior year of high school. It is a beautiful story, and one that I believe everyone needs to read.
4. "Stargirl" - Jerry Spinelli
Stargirl is nothing like the typical teenage girl, and that's what makes her special. She is unapologetically her and doesn't let anyone tell her that who she is is wrong. Being different doesn't make you bad, it makes you beautiful. That's something we all need to hear every once in a while.
