38 Ways To Make The Best Of Your Summer

Summer is great, right? Three whole months of no textbooks, no study guides, no three hour lectures. But, the days are long and you probably don’t want to waste them because you won’t get these months back. So, I’m challenging you to check off as many things on this list as you can with the promise that after, you will in some way be a happier more adventurous person. Accept the challenge. Live your life! Here are 38 ways to make the absolute best of your summer.

  1. Watch the sun rise. It will energize you for the day.
  2. Make a homemade pizza. Use everything and anything you find in your fridge. It will oddly be very delicious.
  3. Learn how to play the guitar, or the piano, or the banjo, or brush up on your recorder skills.
  4. Jump in the ocean in the middle of the night. Clothes are optional.
  5. Take a road trip with your two best friends. You don’t necessarily need a destination. Just get in the car, pack a bathing suit, and head north.
  6. Start a vegetable garden. Fresh organic tomatoes, zucchini, lettuce, and carrots right there in your back yard. Doesn’t get much better.
  7. Cook your parents dinner. Even if its simple pasta. They’ll appreciate it.
  8. Go bowling. Some nights the bowling alley has discounts on group parties, so get your friends together and make it a fun outing.
  9. Throw a party. You don’t need a reason. Just hang some lights, make a ton of “guac” and put your music on shuffle.
  10. 10. Start a dream journal. THIS is actually something you need to do. Right when you wake up, write down your dreams and after a few weeks you might be able to see some revealing patterns in your subconscious.
  11. Plan a trip to South America because there is really good coffee.
  12. Try to write something down every day. Anything. A funny joke you heard, a recipe idea, the name of a song.
  13. Go on a hike with your siblings. It’s important.
  14. Clean out your closet. Also important.
  15. Go to a thrift store. $3 jeans. Come on.
  16. Go to an open-mic night. You don’t have to perform but you might see some entertaining acts.
  17. Go on an overnight camping trip with your friends. Because why not?
  18. Draw a self portrait. This could be very funny.
  19. Go cliff jumping. Maybe not if you’re afraid of heights.
  20. Visit your grandma. Seriously. You know she’ll love it.
  21. Go to an aquarium. Because whales.
  22. Go to a museum. Because culture.
  23. Go to a comedy club. Could be a good time.
  24. Try paddle boarding. Not as easy it looks.
  25. Learn how to surf. Also not easy.
  26. Watch old home videos. If your parents saved them, they’re definitely worth the watch.
  27. Watch a meteor shower. July 28, look at the sky.
  28. Learn the constellations. Something about a lion right?
  29. Read a book of poetry. Or at least read a poem. Just google “poem.”
  30. Take a kick-boxing class. Or boxing. Good stress reliever and you break a sweat.
  31. Learn how to salsa dance. Seriously this is important for life.
  32. Take a bike ride. Wear a helmet!
  33. Go to a really authentic Mexican restaurant. Yummy empanadas.
  34. Eat a lot of guacamole. Just do it.
  35. Don’t stress about the small things.
  36. Don’t look too far ahead.
  37. Laugh a lot.
  38. Love something new.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
