36 Thoughts You May Have While Taking the Metro

If you live in the DMV you all have had this struggle ....trying to ride the metro. Between construction and delays it has become a rather unpredictable form of transportation. So for all of you who ride the metro, I feel your pain! These are just some of thoughts you may have had, I know I have!

1. Okay do I have my smart trip? I am not paying two extra dollars again because I forgot it at home, please tell me I remembered it.

2. Got it, thank goodness.

3. Alright! How much money do I have on this thing? 5 dollars? I can totally make it on that.

4. *looks at time* Fuck, it's peak hours, just great. So I can't make it on 5 dollars, this is affordable how?

5. Well, I guess I have to put more money on my card.

6. ...and this is only for getting there...

7. It better not be peak hours when I leave...

8. I will leave early to avoid peak hours, I'm not paying that on the way back...I am not made of money... Affordable way to travel, yeah right.

9. Oh no! It's coming.

AFTER going through the barriers with your smart trip, trying to get past people who are walking slow on the stairs/escalator

10. Missed it, well it's okay! They're supposed to run every 5 or 10 minutes!

11. Wait... Does that say a 40 minute wait....

12. CONSTRUCTION?!?! Again?!?!

13. ... But really, again? When does it end?

14. ...and all the benches are taken so I guess I'll be standing.

15. At least I have my phone for some music...

16. ....wait. This station is underground, no Pandora, there goes that idea.

17. ...I guess I can play that stacker game

*40 minutes later*

18. It's here! Finally!

19. okay! I gotta place myself correctly!

20. I don't want to be with the crowd.

21. ...okay move away from the people towards where the end of the train will be. There are more seats!

22. Okay, here we go...HOLD YOUR GROUND, the stampede of people will be coming out shortly.

23. Gosh, how many people can fit on one of these?

24. Nevermind, have your eye on the prize! Move quickly in!

25. Oh no, there are more people than I thought, where are the open seats?!?!

26. Eureka! Found one! Now I can play that game on the train, time will go by a little faster at least.

27. ....man there's a lady with a baby... I guess it wouldn't kill me to stand some more.

28. So much for that game...just 20 more minutes I can do it.

29. *train starts moving* oh yup,

I should have definitely held onto the pole thing

30. why is this person staring at me? Can you not? I'm just trying to ride the metro in peace.

31. okay avert your eyes, make no eye contact. Stay low until your stop.

*20 minutes later*

32. FINALLY! I made it....

33. I'm late but I'm here

34. oh... This escalator is a lot bigger than I remember...just stare at your shoes

35. okay! I'm above ground, now I've really made it...My 40 minute trip...yeah turned into an hour and a half...

36. ...and I have to do it on the way back...great

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
