33 Thank-You's For My Freshman Roommate

They say you don't know a person until you live with them. In that case, I'm so thankful I have gotten to know you.

33 Thank-You's For My Freshman Roommate
Tristen Collins

You shared an 11'x16' room with me for nine months, and for that, you deserve the world. The big man upstairs knew what he was doing when he made you my roommate because you have been my counterpart and partner-in-crime throughout this crazy experience that was our first year of college. Every time I look back on my favorite memories of freshman year, you were by my side. I can't express my gratitude enough for all you have done for me, but hopefully these 33 thank-you's will give you an idea of how much you have been appreciated.

1. Thank you for not getting mad when I dipped into your snack drawer.

2. Thank you for telling me when my outfit wasn't flattering.

3. Thank you for forcibly intercepting me from my phone when I wanted to text that boy.

4. Thank you for driving me around when I didn't want to give up my parking spot.

5. Thank you for always being a loyal follower on Instagram.

6. Thank you for being there when I needed a literal shoulder to cry on.

7. Thank you for helping me survive the frat laps.

8. Thank you for sending me encouraging texts before tests.

9. Thank you for helping me brainstorm Instagram captions.

10. Thank you for taking the role as my mom.

11. Thank you for scolding me when I didn't go to class.

12. Thank you for hating the same people I do.

13. Thank you telling me when it was raining outside so I could dress accordingly for the walk to class.

14. Thank you for cleaning our room when I was the reason it was dirty.

15. Thank you for sharing your closet with me.

16. Thank you for not judging me when I told you how much I creeped on you before we lived together.

17. Thank you for jamming out to 2000's hip-hop music with me when we would get ready to go out.

18. Thank you for giving me pep talks when I needed them the most.

19. Thank you for taking a ridiculous amount of pictures with me until we got one that was "post-able."

20. Thank you for checking up on me when I wasn't home at a normal hour.

21. Thank you for making me go to the gym.

22. Thank you for rationalizing days we skipped going to the gym.

23. Thank you for procrastinating homework with me.

24. Thank you for tossing me your phone when you came across a funny video on Facebook.

25. Thank you for not hating me when I would accidentally wake you up in the middle of the night.

26. Thank you for helping me unpack my car whenever I would come back from a road trip.

27. Thank you for listening to me rant about insignificant things.

28. Thank you for memorizing rap songs with me.

29. Thank you for looking up all of my high school friends on Facebook so you would know who I was talking about when I told stories.

30. Thank you for making me stay in even when I didn't want to.

31. Thank you for always accompanying me to The Caf so I wouldn't be lonely.

32. Thank you for always letting me use your stapler, colored pencils, and scissors.

33. Lastly, thank you for not only being my roommate, but my best friend as well.

Freshman year wouldn't have been the same without you, and I'm so glad that you have accepted every version of myself, including the hangry and sleepy sides. Even though we won't share a room next year, know that you can always count on me for a late-night run to Whataburger or Target. I love you, roomie.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
