Most who have seen "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" will recall Ferris Bueller's infamous line, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." These words of wisdom spoken from the mouth of Matthew Broderick, who played Bueller, couldn't be truer today as the movie quickly approaches its third decade of existence.
Having maintained its relevance throughout the years, the John Hughes classic, which was originally released on June 11, 1986, will be celebrating its 30th anniversary in the days, weeks and months to come.
Many of the events taking place will be part of Ferris Fest – a festival happening in Chicago and the suburbs in which the movie was filmed. It will take place May 20-22.
Two showings of the movie will take place on May 21 and 22 at the John and Nancy Hughes Theater in Lake Forest, Illinois. These showings will be part of Ferris Fest and will be hosted by film critic Richard Roeper. Various actors from the movie will also be in attendance, including Ferris' parents, Katie and Tom Bueller, and the high school secretary, Grace. Actors will be participating in a Q&A as well as greeting fans and signing autographs.
Virgin Hotels Chicago will be creating a replica of Ferris' bedroom. The re-creation will be on display during Ferris Fest. Chicago's Lincoln Hotel will be offering guests packages inspired by the film. The packages will include tickets to a Cubs baseball game, which Ferris attended in the movie with his friend Cameron and girlfriend Sloane.
The Palmer House Hilton will offer the ultimate Ferris Bueller package this summer. Guests will be treated to a bucket list of activities inspired by the movie, a dinner reservation at the Lockwood Restaurant (and, yes, the reservation will be under the name "Abe Froman"), plus two passes to the Art Institute of Chicago.
Hubby's Dog House Sausage, a Chicago-based sausage cart, will be temporarily renaming itself to "Abe Froman, the Sausage King of Chicago." During lunchtime every Friday from May 20 to August 26, the cart will be located outside of Willis Tower.
The Willis Tower will also be participating in the fun. Beginning May 19, fans will have the opportunity to pose for pictures on the sky deck where Ferris, Cameron and Sloane once stood. The tower will have a Ferrari on display outside from June 21-24. It will also host a Ferris Bueller look-alike contest on June 24.
If traveling to Chicago this summer isn't doable, fans will also be given the opportunity to see Bueller once more on the silver screen thanks to the TCM Big Screen Classics series. Showings will be at select theaters across the nation at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on May 15 and 18. For more information, or to purchase tickets, click here.
