30 Things You Can Relate To If You're The "Mom Friend"
Huffington Post

I have been told so many times before that I’m the "mom friend" that it’s practically become apart of my persona. Some of my friends have even introduced me to other people like, “This is my friend Fran, she’s basically my mom” and within five minutes of talking to someone new, they can see why. I am a short, Italian girl with an accent that resembles your stereotypical mom or grandma, and I act the same way. It’s really not something I mean to do, it just what I was surrounded by when I grew up and now I act like that without even realizing. Here are 30 things I know I am definitely guilty of being the mom friend and things that my "mom friends" have definitely done before.

1. You always have your friends over your house because you love to play hostess and have people over.

2. Speaking of hosting, you have a Pinterest folder dedicated to how to host the perfect party.

From a movie and wine night to your future kid’s birthday parties, you’ve got them all covered.

3. And a million recipe videos saved to Facebook that you’re just dying to try.

4. You're always prepared...

From Advil to tissues to hand sanitizer, whatever someone needs, you probably have it in your bag and can find in 30 seconds flat.

5. And your friends have definitely made fun of you for it.

You can all laugh now but when someone needs a band-aid, you’re gonna be grateful for my “Mary Poppins” bag.

6. Speaking of being prepared, you always have snacks for when someone gets way too hangry.

7. You’re 9 times out of 10 the soberest one.

Which means you’re 9 times out of 10 the one holding the hair at the end of the night.

8. And the one that takes all the pictures/videos for Instagram and Snap.

9. AND the one that your friends ask to check their messages to their family.

"Help, I don't want my grandma to know that I'm three shots too deep on a Thursday, can you check this to make sure it sounds alright?"

10. You always volunteer to be the DD.

“I’m not moving until everyone have their seatbelt on!"

11. You are always there to save your friends from weird guys that try to hit on them.

12. And you stop them from texting Kappa Delta Douche when they’ve had one too many cran vodkas.

13. You’re the go-to girl for giving your friends advice.

About anything, but usually about Kappa Delta Douche.

14. Your friends always text you first when they have good news or get a good grade.

15. And you definitely answer back in all bitmojis.

Or a borderline amount of emojis that might make it look like you're being sarcastic when in reality, you're really just a proud mom.

16. You always organize the plans.

“We’re gonna all meet at my house by 2:30, catch the 3:20 train in the city; we have a reservation to eat at 5, and we’ll be at the game by 7. Sound good?”

17. You're always the one to remind your friends of the things they’re forgetting.

“You have your keys? Phone? Wallet? What about your ticket? I knew it, go back in, I'll wait here."

18. You make sure your friends know what the weather is going to be like so they dress appropriately.

“Make sure you bring a jacket, it’s gonna get cold out!”

19. And you always remind them to wear sunscreen.

“You’re gonna burn if you don’t put it on.”

20. You catch yourself telling them what to do more often than not.

Which makes you feel a lot like an actual mom.

21. And that feeling is confirmed when you always get a response along the lines of “Thanks, mom” or “Okay mom”.

Or when they don't listen to what you said and you hit them with an "I told you so."

22. You definitely own some sort or planner/have some way of writing everything down.

Not just for yourself, but for your friends too.

23. Which means you’re the one that reminds them of that big event they have coming up or when their homework is due.

24. Or, when they should be doing homework or studying instead of playing around.

And you're always the one to listen to their presentation or quiz them for their test.

25. You make sure to hype them up before they go out.

26. And yell a million things to them as they’re walking out the door.

“Have fun! Be careful! Don't leave your drink alone! Send me pictures!”

27. You make them check in with you when they get there AND when they’re leaving.

And then you check their location when they forget and don’t answer your million texts.

28. You call everyone, not just your friends, pet names like “honey” or “sweetie.”

29. Or, you kiss everyone hello and goodbye.

You know, like that kiss on the cheek your grandma always does??

30. Even though you get annoyed sometimes and complain, you wouldn’t want it any other way!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
