30 Things You'd Rather Do Than Go To Your High School Homecoming Dance

When can we leave again?

High School is complete with traditions that go on for years and years. Homecoming is one of those traditions that you either really love or really hate. Pretty much everyone goes out to support the football team on Friday night, but dreads going to the homecoming dance on Saturday. If your school is anything like my old high school, homecoming dances mean spending hours in a large room that's surprisingly, and unfortunately, well lit and crawling with chaperones. Instead of dancing, which is considered to be totally lame in high school (not really sure why because dancing is actually so fun), people sit at tiny tables with their dates and talk about how they can't wait to get out of the dance and head to the after-party. With that being said, here are a few things that you will probably want to do instead of going to your high school homecoming dance.

1. Knit with your grandma.

2. Spend the night "Netflix and chilling."

3. Hang out with your parents.

4. Eat kale.

5. Do your laundry.

6. Scroll through all of the selfies you've taken and then deleted.

7. Read a piece of literature in Old English without the help of a translator.

8. Watch the movie "Rubber" 12 times.

9. Do all 90 workouts from P90X in one night.

10. Listen to Nickelback.

11. Memorize every Nickelback song.

12. Watch a YouTube video that buffers every second.

13. Reorganize the clothing racks at Forever 21.

14. Go through every #mancrushmonday post that that annoying girl you follow on Instagram has posted.

15. Babysit a million babies at once.

16. Be dissed by Kanye West.

17. Write a research paper on how to keep up with the Kardashians.

18. Listen to "Gagnam Style" on repeat.

19. Become best friends with "Friday" singer, Rebecca Black.

20. Filter through all of your Facebook posts from middle school.

21. Hang out with the cast of "Jersey Shore."

22. Participate in a habanero pepper eating contest.

23. Listen to your parents go on and on about "the good old days."

24. Sit on an ant hill.

25. Meet Guy Fieri.

26. Run into an ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend.

27. Be put on hold with your cell phone company.

28. Eat the old french fries that have been sitting in the crevices of your car's seats for months.

29. Go on a date with someone you met on Tinder.

30. Use the Internet via dial-up service.

Homecoming dances are meant to be enjoyed, but we often blow them off and find ourselves just sitting there waiting to leave. Even though you might be dreading going to your homecoming dances, try to have fun and make the best of your situation. Dance the night away with your closest friends and make some memories. Nobody is going to have fun if you choose to sit at a table and watch the minutes tick by. Homecoming in high school is what you make of it, so try your best to make it fun.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
