If you were to ask me who I look up to (outside of family members and friends), you would get the same answer every time; Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. To the people in my life, this is actually a well-known fact about me. What is not as obvious, though, is why? There are multiple reasons, but I've managed to narrow it down to three.
1. Work Ethic.
It's no secret that The Rock is a powerhouse for hard work. According to his personal Instagram profile, he wakes up between three and four in the morning to exercise, follows a highly-disciplined nutrition regimen, co-manages his self-founded production company, simultaneously shoots various films, assists in the facilitation and creation of new products in his Under Armor clothing line, and finally, works out again. The man never takes his foot off the gas, and based on his success, it's worked quite nicely for him.
2. He's a Fan of His Fans.
I have never seen any other celebrity, athlete, or public figure spend as much time with their fans as The Rock does. In one video that I watched, he was driving through his neighborhood and passed a group of teenagers who recognized him. They began screaming and waving him down, and instead of continuing to head home, he turned his truck around, signed some autographs, took some pictures, and actually hung out with them for a while. It's was a simple act, but it displayed that he truly appreciates those that appreciate him. In his own words, "It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice."
3. He Encourages People.
When he isn't busy working or getting to know his fans, The Rock spends his time helping people in some way or another. If you have a minute to spare after reading this, I would highly encourage you to take a look at his Instagram page. There are videos upon videos of him walking into the hospital rooms of sick children and paying them a surprise visit. Despite the pain they are in, their faces always light up. Additionally, the parents are always overjoyed to see a smile on their children's faces, especially in the midst of their condition. The Rock ends each visit with a one-on-one talk with the children, telling them not to give up, reminding them of how great they are, and encouraging them to remain strong. Even as someone who doesn't easily get emotional, I can honestly say that these videos can be quite the tearjerkers, so maybe watch them by yourself.
