Picture this: you’re scrolling through Facebook after a super hard day of class. You’re stressed out, too much homework, your friends just don’t get it but you see the title of an article pop up on your feed. Because you’re intrigued, you open it and begin reading. Come to find out that this article perfectly explains everything you’re feeling. It’s like those Taylor Swift songs we loved as a young girl because somehow, someone else seemed to have read our minds and put our thoughts down on paper.
After finishing reading you feel a little bit better. Maybe this article offered some advice to help you through your tough time or maybe it left you with a sense of relief. Either way, you think “maybe I’ll share it with my best friend from back home because she went through something similar.” So you copy the link from Odyssey and send it her way. A few minutes later you notice that she responds in all caps just going on and on about how PERFECT that link was. It not only described how you felt that day, but also how she felt too! Then, you both spend hours talking and venting about life. You’re however many hours apart, but this seemed to have brought you together like distance was nothing.
See, Odyssey is something that you can stumble upon on a bad day and just one article can affect your entire mood. Sometimes it gets your feelings across better than you could and it’s because there are real people writing these articles! Real people, who’ve experience life and sometimes have experience a lot of the similar situations you have have happen in your life. Being apart of Odyssey has been so amazing because for so long, I’ve been the girl scrolling through Facebook, stumble upon a link and then be so moved by it. Now, I get to put my emotions down in an article and reach out and impact people in my community. I can’t think of anything more powerful either; social media is so present in our culture that these kind of sites are the kind we can use for good! To promote health & wellness, love and self confidence etc.
So if someone was to ask me to give them three reasons why I love Odyssey, that’s exactly what I’d tell them. One link can help you or someone else relate to something you’re going through. It can even bring two people who are apart closer together. And finally, being on the team, it’s given me the power to make a positive impact in my community.
