During my sophomore year of college, I made the decision to adopt a puppy. I asked my roommates, and they all agreed to let me bring a fur baby into our home. My dog's name is Jett. Jett is a Boston Terrier (who thinks he is a human).
Here are some reasons adopting him while in college was the best choice I ever made.
1. Dogs Love You Unconditionally.
Last year, I encountered the sophomore slump. I was overworked, overwhelmed, and under-rested, but having Jett around was just what I needed! Between puppy kisses and a late night study buddy, he really earned his keep.
2. Dogs Make Great Travel Buddies.
Jett went to Colorado, Kansas, Texas, and all over Oklahoma. Car rides put him right to sleep. In the beginning, I worried about getting a dog because I travel a bunch. Luckily, Jett loves to travel, too. He loves exploring new areas with me. Traveling with a dog also means you're always alert to anything going bump in the night. Traveling with Jett is great as well because everywhere feels like home with him.
3. Dogs Push You To Be Better.
Jett made me be more responsible. I always try getting most of my work done during school hours, so when I come home, I can play fetch and hangout with him. Jett also taught me to be smart about my money. Budgeting for pet-related expenses like vet visits, food, toys, and any routine grooming is really important!
Overall, I just aspire to be as kind and as loving as my dog.
