3 Reasons to be Excited for School

I used to hate going to school, so these are the three things that I focused on to make it better.

I don't know why but since middle school I have slowly started to like school more and more. Yes, I'm like everybody else at the end of the school year and am very ready to be off for summer break. Summer is great at the beginning! However, for me, at the end of June/start of July, I start becoming tired of summer break. I have my fill of sleeping in, late nights, lazy days, within just the first half of summer and become very excited for classes to start again.

Now, I know that not everybody is like this, and sometimes people get surprised by my opinion. Before I started getting excited halfway through the summer for school to begin again, I always looked forward to three things that helped me be excited for classes again.

1. Friends

We don't always get to see friends during the summer, maybe due to not having a car or not having the time to get over to each other's houses. Perhaps because you're both lazy, introverts, or just don't want to leave the house. So a lot of the time you end up spending the majority of time together during the school year. Nothing wrong with that at all, in my opinion, maybe as long as you talk during the summer at the very least. But anyways! I look forward to those friends and also look forward to the possibility of finding new friends. Make a new friend or acquaintance every year is like a huge goal for me. It helps me force myself out of my comfort zone.

2. Teachers

Every new school year you start with new teachers. For certain classes you may have some of the same teachers you had last year, but for your main core classes you'll usually have teachers you've never met before. I think this can be exciting, and terrifying. Everyone usually has a teacher that maybe they can't stand or don't like for whatever reason, it's normal. Another reason I get so excited for school though is because I know I'm going to get to meet new teachers whom have the ability to increase my knowledge and help me grow as a person. Of course, I'm super excited about having teachers I've already had as well, especially if I like and get along with them!

3. Classes

New classes every year, new things to learn and expand my knowledge. More opportunities, the ability to have different classes. Of course for grades K-12 there will be similar core classes every year but there are extracurricular classes to choose from, especially in high school, so then there are extracurricular classes you're able to change either every semester or at least every year. I love the extracurricular classes because that means I can take a class that I've been wanting to take any year I'm able to fit it in around my core classes. Now in college it's even more amazing because I get to change those classes every semester for sure instead of just every year. I also don't have to take one class the whole year! Which is like a huge relief because that means I won't have math or science for a whole year again!

These are the three things I used to focus on the most when I was getting ready to go back to school. Now that I get happy about it halfway through the summer I don't have to really focus on these until like halfway through the second semester, but either way these help me stay excited and focused on classes until we make it back to summer break. Maybe they'll help you?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
