Over the years, movie studios such as Disney have been criticized for their lack of authenticity.
However, I personally believe that although this studio does in fact produce movies that as a woman and feminist make me angry, there are some films with great life lessons for both adults and youths.
In fact, I have come up with three reasons why parents should let their children watch animated films by these studios.
1. They show the importance of friends and family.
There are not many things that can break the boundary between ages and races, and Disney films are one of them. Its an unbelievable thing that my 79 year-old grandparents and my 19 year-old self can sit down and enjoy a Disney animation classic and still get equal entertainment out of the movies. I also find it amazing that I can enjoy a film I liked when I was 7 years old just as much, if not more, then I do now.
2. The films can stay with you for years.
I, like probably many of you, can almost remember every time I watched a Disney movie for the first time. I was 5 when I had watched the Lion King and I was at my grandparents house. I was 9 when I watched Finding Dory with my AYSO soccer team at a sleep over. I was 17 when I watched Sleeping Beauty for the first time with one of my best friends. Disney movies have had such a lasting impact on my life. I can only hope that they create more magical movies such as the ones I grew up with for my own children.
3. We understand the trials and tribulations that our favorite characters had to go through in a different way.
As we grow up and progress into the young men and women that we aspire to be, it is a well known fact that we will go through many obstacles in order to achieve our goals. Disney movies have a way of growing up with you, so that each time you watch the movie, you can relate to your favorite character in a different way.
