3 Reasons Why I Dislike Chipotle's Guac

Hate on me all you want, but I stand by my opinion.

I've had several unpopular opinions in the past about which I have written, but y'all are really gonna hate me for this one.

I don't like Chipotle's guacamole.

There. I said it. I stand by that opinion steadfastly and unabashedly. Some may call it heresy, others may call it sacrilege, some people would have me burnt at the stake for it, but you cannot persuade me to enjoy the guacamole from Chipotle.

You'd probably wonder what makes me have such a disagreeable opinion on the guacamole, but there are a few simple reasons why I skip out on the green stuff when I order my bowl.

1. The Taste

Maybe I've just been spoiled by really great guac my whole life, but I just don't find it too tasty. I had never been to Chipotle prior to 2013, so that left a long time for me to try different guacs at various traditional and chain Mexican restaurants. When I think of guacamole, I think of a very distinct flavor profile with the avocados, onions, cilantro, lime, salt, and maybe some chili peppers, but Chipotle's guac fails to deliver that profile. They actually fail to bring out the flavors of most of those ingredients. When I dig a chip into it, it just tastes like mashed avocados and water, with no salt or citrus or anything else. So, if I don't want it on a chip, what sense does it make to add it to my bowl? This has occurred on several occasions, so this is not a result of one bad experience.

2. The Cost

Guacamole is a relatively inexpensive food to prepare. Avocados aren't expensive, and the other necessary ingredients (in bulk) don't total up to much either. So why does Chipotle expect me to pay $1.95 extra for something that should not even be remotely that high. I understand there's some factoring of workers wages in there (I worked in the food industry for my first job), but basically 2 whole extra dollars? I'm not rich, ya know?

3. The Hype

Although I wrote a rant about the taste, my biggest reason for disliking Chip's guacamole is all the attention and renown it receives. I'm not trying to insult people who enjoy it, but y'all really have to go to a real Mexican restaurant and try guacamole made fresh, table-side. There're volumes to be spoken about watching your guacamole being prepared right next to your table, observing each ingredient added to the bowl, and being able to satisfactorily take a bite of it knowing it's going to be flavorful and delicious. There's just nothing special about the guac at Chipotle so it really doesn't deserve all the hype it receives. "Oh, it's sooooo good"..."It's the best part of every bite"...I just don't think so.

I probably ruined a few friendships just now, but maybe next time you get the guac at Chipotle, you'll stop and think about how you may have been brainwashed into enjoying something that's mediocre at best.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
