I have officially become someone I never thought I would be, but college all leads us to do things we never have thought of. I was in search of flexible, well paying job, that was temporary when I stumbled upon an ad to become a political caller. The ad claimed to have everything I wanted in a position and more, but calling people to tell them to vote? I wasn't so sure how I felt about that, but I applied regardless because lets be real, I am always broke. Once I got the job I quickly realized that becoming a political caller didn't turn me into the devil, it made me encourage others to participate in democracy. So here are 3 reasons you should answer the next political call:
1. We know what we are talking about
The first thing I learned about becoming a political caller is that you have a lot to learn. You learn about your candidates stances and beliefs on every remotely popular topic in politics. To be able to answer people's questions and provide information, we have to be well educated. At the local level we often meet the candidates and have worked with them before. So we actually know who and what we are talking about. If you have any questions about your local politician who better than to ask than his employees?
2. You should know who you are voting for
As a first time voter, it has been overwhelming to try and keep up with who is running for what in this election. I am terrified of walking into the voting poll and not knowing a single person on the ballot. The people we vote for are the people who make choices on our behalf. If we don't know who is making our choices its hard to complain about them. Even if you don't want to talk long, at least catch their name and Google them later.
3. I promise we are nice people
I have met some of the smartest people I know through becoming a political caller. These people are well educated and have a passion for politics along with democracy. My nerdy clan of coworkers consistently pool together to bring food and fun into the office to brighten everyone's days. Each of these people carry this kindness through the phone when they call you. Don't feel bad if you can't talk or really don't want to, just bid us a good day and we will do the same.
