3 Movies That Will Change The Way You Look At Life

1. Me Before You

Lou who becomes a caregiver for Will, who was left quadriplegic and depressed after a motorcycle accident. At the beginning of the movie, Will's plan was to travel to Switzerland after six months for assisted suicide services. Will's parents hired Lou in the hope that she'd be able to cheer him up and change his mind. Lou eventually learns about Will's plan and makes it her personal mission to change his mind.

She doesn’t succeed. At the end of the movie, Will goes through with his plan to die. You can’t change people, as much as you want to. You have the right to make your choices, and everyone else has the right to make theirs. It’s debatable on whether or not Will’s decision was the right one, but it was ultimately his. Lou and his parents were never going to change his mind

While Lou is trying to convince Will to stay alive, he is trying to convince her to live her life to the fullest. He wants her to leave their hometown and follow her dreams. A few weeks after Will’s death, Louisa is seen in Paris reading a letter from him. A quote from that letter is, “Live boldly. Push yourself. Don’t settle. Just live.”

2. The Breakfast Club

You are so much more than your stereotypes. The Breakfast Club is about five very different high school students who end up in detention together. When they first walked into detention, they instantly put each other into boxes – the jock, the princess, the nerd, the rebel, and the recluse. They spent the day arguing, causing trouble, and eventually bonding. At the end of the day, they realized that they weren’t so different after all. Each of them had their own set of problems that led them to detention.

This movie shows how important it is to really look at people. We are psychologically predisposed to make assumptions and stereotypes, and that’s okay. The important thing is learning to look beyond these initial stereotypes and see people for who they really are.

3. La La Land

Life doesn’t always go how we expect. The movie follows a young actress, Mia, and a young musician, Sebastian, during their year long relationship. At the end of the year, they break up to follow their dreams. Then the movie jumps ahead five years. Mia is a successful actress, and Sebastian owns a Jazz club (Seb's). They run into each other when Mia and her husband end up at Seb’s on a date night. Suddenly It’s clear that in order for them to have ever been together, one of them would have to sacrifice their dreams. Mia’s first acting job took her out of the country. Sebastian could have gone with her, but he wouldn’t have been able to pursue his dream of opening a jazz club in LA. Mia could have turned down the acting job, but she might never have had another chance.

In most romance movies, the main characters end up together and both of their dreams come true. But that isn’t reality. Sometimes your first love isn’t who you’re meant to be with, and that’s okay. You will likely fall in love with many people before you find someone to spend the rest of your life with. As devastating as the end of these relationships are, they are each instrumental in helping you become the person you’re meant to be.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
