Another whole week has gone by! We've seen a huge spike of cases in COVID-19 this week, but do not fear! Fear and anxiety will not get anything done. Focus on social distancing and turning on your introvert switch! Here are things that I have done this week that you could do to have fun in your very own home.
Draw/paint!

I truly believe that everyone has an artist inside of them. Even if you have never picked up a paintbrush in your life, drawing and painting is a great way to express your creativity and alleviate any negative mental health symptoms! Use whatever you have available to you; be creative with the media you use to draw. They can be as simple as a number two pencil and a notepad. If you have an iPad for school, I highly recommend downloading a digital art app. I use Autodesk Sketchbook because it's free and it works just fine! Many people experience art block, which means you don't know what to draw. When I experience art block, I just look around me and try to draw every objects or food in a cartoonish style. Drawing everyday objects are a great starting point, and you can always show off your work in a portfolio or via Instagram!
Physical exercise!

This can include yoga, cardio exercises, or even just simply walking. Staying active and maintaining your physical health will do a lot for your mental health. One thing that this activity has that is different from drawing and painting is that you can exercise with people (that is, your family members)! A recent study showed that lack of social connections put you at risk for developing depression and anxiety, which is particularly dangerous amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, exercising with your family is something that can lower your risk of developing depressive symptoms or anxiety. When you work out, always remember you can turn on music to set the mood! Making your own playlist is also a good motivator for working out.
Watching TV shows/movies!

Streaming services are doing so well during these times. Netflix, Hulu, and other streaming services allow you to watch shows and movies on demand. Regular cable TV also has various channels that you can watch. YouTube is also another vast platform that has many free movies. Having a family movie night is something my family loves to do often. I encourage you to watch a show or a movie with your family to relax from the stresses of our current world crisis. Pop some popcorn or prepare another easy snack, and enjoy some quality time together!
I hope these three activities give you more ideas on how to spend your time during quarantine. I know that we can get through this as long as we all put in the effort and practice social distancing. Stay safe!
