If you know me, you know that my favorite movie of all time is “The Wizard of Oz." I have loved it ever since I can remember, and I am always up for watching it. It is more than just silly songs and a girl defeating a wicked witch. There are some lessons hidden in it, and they can apply to almost everyone’s life. It focuses on appreciating what you have, who your true friends are, and even just general things any person should learn or know. I have three quotes that really stand out to me and I would like to share them with you.
1. "Some people without brains do an awful lot of talking."
In this scene in the movie, Dorothy asked how Scarecrow was talking if he didn't have a brain. His response was, "Some people without brains do an awful lot of talking." I think we can all think of that one person that just talks too much and they are just going on and on about something they do not even know about. There will always be that one "airhead." They probably mean well, but it just comes off as arrogant or they look ignorant or silly. This tells me that if I do not know what I am talking about it is probably just best to keep quiet. Scarecrow planned to go ask the Wizard for a brain. He wanted to be better.
2. "And now my beauties, something with poison in it, I think. With poison in it, but attractive to the eye, and soothing to the smell. Poppies!"
In this scene, the Wicked Witch poisons a field of poppies to stop the four friends from reaching the Emerald City. This stands out to me because it can relate to sin. Satan makes sin look fun or pleasing on the outside. It might make you feel good for a little bit, but it essentially is poison. It can cause damage to you on the inside. Just like how Dorothy fell asleep, it can cause you to fall asleep spiritually and not reach the Emerald City, or in this case, Heaven.
3. "If I ever go looking for my heart's desire again, I won't look any further than my own backyard; because if it isn't there, I never really lost it to begin with."
