3 Great Ways To Spend Winter Break

You're home for the holidays, what do you do now?

Ah, winter break...

The one thing college students have looked forward to the entire fall semester is finally upon us, yet there seems to be nothing refreshing about this "break." It almost feels like it is anything but one.

Now that we are all back in our hometowns--or wandering all in our lonesome in our college town--we have no clue what to do with ourselves now that school is out of the picture, for the moment.

I have done some extensive research of my own during the past two weeks I have returned home for break, and luckily for you, have gathered the most effective ways to spend your final weeks of this vacation at home!

1. Eat everything in your parent's kitchen

Your family has had the luxury of the absence of your eating habits for the past four months. What better way to make up that lost time than to eat every single item of food in their household? I'm sure they missed buying double the amount of groceries throughout all that time anyway. Remember: the ultimate goal is to gain the freshman 15 back within these two weeks.

2. Sleep your life away

The key to making the most out of your winter break is sleeping so much that you are constantly tired. It reminds you of your finest times during the semester when you had only taken a 15 minute nap within a 48 hour period, except now you're just exhausted any moment that you aren't spending in bed. Extra points are awarded if you can sleep for 13 hours or more consecutively and end up staying up until 6 am each morning.

3. Stare into the abyss

Let us face the facts: you have absolutely no friends at home, you're miserable, there is no one there to cuddle you but your dog and you have been actively avoiding spending time with your family for the past week. You've left yourself with no other option than to spend the remaining amount of time left on break in your room questioning everything and anything you've done in your lifetime. You don't know how you spent your time at home before college nor how you managed to live with constant parental supervision. You wish you were a jellyfish, swimming freely in the ocean, but instead reflect on why you still have no significant other to invite to holiday dinner.

Truthfully, there is no great way to spend your winter break. I'm thankful to spend time at home and with my family, especially not worrying about submitting 14 assignments before 11:59. However, if you picked the right college, and I know I did, you are 110% ready to go back!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
