3 College Students vs. 8 Restaurants

So, I decided to give The Odyssey community some college student input on eight widely known fast-food chains. My friends, Jasmine and Lexi, and I all provided feedback on each of the restaurants and a rating score out of 10.

Wendy's

-Jasmine: 7/10; I don't feel like I am eating plastic, and the 4 for 4 deal cannot be beaten. Spicy nuggets always are a must. Lemonades and frostys are always a plus as well.

-Lexi: 8/10; I agree with everything Jasmine said.

-Alex: 8/10; Take the chocolate frosty and a side of fries and you have a meal. Period.

McDonald's

-Jasmine: 6/10; But only because of the cones. No other place does ice cream better. The bacon egg and cheese McGrittle is amazing, in a DIFFERENT WAY. The fake egg and bacon really hits the spot.

-Lexi: 7/10; 3 words: ALL-DAY- BREAKFAST. Their coffee is amazing for a great price, and their sweet tea is unmatchable. 1 dollar and seven cents is unreal. The oreo McFlurry-- unbelievable and light on the feet, airy even. Enough said.

-Alex: 5/10; The prices are decent for when you are in a quick pinch, but I only ever get the McChicken, fries, and a large sweet tea. Forget the rest of the menu.

Burger King

-Jasmine: 1/10; I have never had anything on this menu that I genuinely liked. I have only been twice in my life and I never plan on returning. They are just copy cats of McDonald's. The fries are AWFUL. I have never had anything.... this bad.

-Lexi: 3/10; Underwhelming. The food is disgusting, but their burgers are not the worst thing I have ever had.

-Alex: 1/10; Everything I have eaten here tastes like it was pulled out of the freezer as soon as you ordered it in the drive-thru.

Arby's

live.staticflickr.com

-Jasmine: 2/10; first 6 words… who designs a restaurant around roast beef? No one has ever said, "I'm craving roast beef." They have three types of roast beef, a small amount of roast beef- then double the roast beef- then triple the roast beef. No one has ever wanted that much roast beef… additionally, they have a jelly barbecue sauce to go on top of it, and I'm not sure why. But their curly fries are better than Burger King so I rate them higher.

-Lexi: -10/10; one question: who is keeping that establishment open?

-Alex: Unclear; I have never eaten here. Probably a good thing.

Chick-fil-A

live.staticflickr.com

-Jasmine: 100/10; what isn't good about this menu? The chicken sandwich, the spicy chicken sandwich, the ice cream, the lemonade, the nuggets, the chicken minis… I wish they were open on Sunday.

-Lexi: 10/10; their rewards program is really nice. And a fun fact is if you get a kids' meal-- you can substitute the toy for an ice cream cone for free. The sauces? I would drink them all alone.

-Alex: 10/10; Chicken sandwich meal with two Polynesian sauces and two honey mustards to-go, please and thank you!

Subway

live.staticflickr.com

-Jasmine: 5/10; this place is just not the best. Sometimes it seems like they take the sandwich and smash it down with their hand, just to hand to you. It's flat. There are always flies. If I'm really in a crunch, I will get a Subway sandwich though.

-Lexi: 7/10; Subway basically fueled my figure-skating career from ages 4-10. After practice, I would go every day to Subway. Also they have a really good breakfast selection. There is an egg and bacon flatbread with spinach and sweet onion dressing that is unreal. The meatball and marinara- traditional! There's just something so American about it.

-Alex: 4/10; I just feel like every time I have gone to Subway, the line is too long and there aren't enough workers. By the time I get my food, I'm not even hungry anymore.

Sonic

live.staticflickr.com

-Jasmine: 7/10; I haven't eaten there much, but every time I go it's a great experience. I like drive-ins and not many places do that anymore. It's your standard fast-food. It's not bad.

-Lexi: 9/10; I have quite a few points about sonic: the breakfast sandwich, the french toast sticks, the super long chili cheese dog, the 168,000 drink combinations you can make at Sonic. The variety? Outstanding. Try to find something there that you don't like.

-Alex: 8/10; I agree with Lexi. The best slushies, and at 2-4 pm Happy Hour, you can get anything you want for nothing. The only problem is that the drive-thru always takes a bit.

Taco Bell

live.staticflickr.com

-Jasmine: -10/10; My mom and dad never called Taco Bell by its real name. Take that as you will. I think that says it all.

-Lexi: 8/10; One Christmas my brother and I got Taco Bell gift cards.

-Alex: 3/10; It tastes fine the first time, but it definitely sits with you for longer than you need it to.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
