Congratulations everyone, we’ve made it to the best term of the year, objectively. Don’t fight me on this. The weather is bearable enough for one single layer of clothing, the promise of summer is right around the corner, and it’s guaranteed that you’ll see at least one dog every day. We all know that spring term has the perfect weather for hiking Spencer’s Butte and attending duck baseball games, but here are some fun spring activities that are severely underrated.
1. Track Meets at Hayward Field
It’s called Historic Hayward Field for a reason, it’s the centerpiece of “Track Town, USA” and attracts athletes, coaches and fans from every corner of the country because of it’s famous crowds with a love for the sport. Not to mention, our men and women’s teams are among the best in the country. Admission is free for students, you can find the schedule for the 2018 season here.
2. Owen Rose Garden
The Owen Rose Garden lies on eight and a half-acres near the Willamette River with more than 4,500 roses. The land for the garden was donated in 1951 by former Eugene councilor George E. Owen. Take a stroll through the garden with your significant other, or your dog, or even just your own thoughts of the impending doom that is graduation, and see more than 400 varieties of roses!
3. Ninkasi Brewing Company
To all my 21+ readers out there, this one’s for you. Ninkasi Brewing is a microbrewery local to Eugene named after the Sumerian goddess of beer, Ninkasi. The brewery’s tasting room is open every day, and a revolving selection of food from local food carts are offered on the outdoor patio. The outdoor space is a perfect location to sip on a Total Domination and ignore your responsibilities.
Happy spring term!
